Are you happy with the Sens' offseason moves?
Thu, August 28, 2008

The Sens are a team that went to the Stanley Cup final two years ago before suffering a disappointing season in 2007-08.

They have a new coach and now no more Ray Emery.

Can the Senators turn it around and make a fresh start next season? Have your say in our forum.

Well!...things sure look a lot better then they did a few weeks ago.I still feel their main problem remains goaltending. As long as Gerber's playing well,I think they have a fair chance.But..if,like a lot of their wins this season, they have to score five or more goals in order to win a game,I expect an early playoff exit. They just don't have enough depth, past the second line.

to John B:

You can say the same thing about the 29 other NHL teams that do no win the cup.

Please, the Sens made it to the final. The fact that they didn't win the cup hardly resembles the wheels falling off. Go back to Toronto and calculate those long-shot odds again and again.

They are on a better track. They look less dis-jointed than they have in months.

The D seems to be more solid, the goal-tending is not costing as may bad goals and the O are getting those 'lucky' bounces.

I am sure it's nicer to be fighting for 1st than 9th.

looks like it but too early to tell!

Why are Sens stories like this all the time. As soon as they win one big game it must mean they are "back on track" or "in the saddle" or what ever. Fact is they have only one the one really meaningfull game lately vs Montreal. They beat Boston but Bostone hasn't been playing as good of late and beating Phoenix shouldn't amount to a hill of beans either. They lost in every way possible to Anaheim and got shut out by the worst team in the NHL not so long ago. I think they are heading in a better direction and it seems like they are playing a more inspired game of late but its still too early to say they are back on track. Lets remember what the track is for the Sens, Eastern Conference Champions, 18-3 start to the season, thats one heck of a track to get back into.

Sure the Sens are back on track, teasing their long suffering fans into thinking this is their year again.Only problem is the wheels will fall off again as they do every spring when the going gets too tough for all their fairweather players to get through the huge snowdrifts that await them.

Gerber has always been the better goaltender. His shot/save percentage is better, and his win/lose record is better as well. Having Emery prance back in and expect the starting job, and then getting it, even when behaving and playing so poorly was the key to Ottawa's slump.

I knew once Murray took over as coach it would take him 5 to 10 games to de-Paddock-ize the teams playing style and get back to a simpler style of play which made them so successful. They seem to be right on schedule with the 3 game winning steak, lower goals against and rebirth of confidence. Gerber has been spectacular as well. I think other eastern teams should be worried if the Sens continue the turn around because the additions of Commodore, Stillman & Lapointe will only give them a greater advantage going into the playoffs over last year. GREAT JOB MURRAY.

two weeks ago I said give Murray two weeks to to sort out issues....players were to earn respect... looks good now

Indeed they are. Emery isn't playing... coincidence?
