Are you happy with the Sens' offseason moves? Thu, August 28, 2008
The Sens are a team that went to the Stanley Cup final two years ago before suffering a disappointing season in 2007-08.
They have a new coach and now no more Ray Emery.
Can the Senators turn it around and make a fresh start next season? Have your say in our forum.

The best opportunity for the Sens happened the year they were put out by the Devils - they get past the Devils in game 7 they beat the Ducks to win the Cup. Despite the trip to the finals last year, they never did have a chance against the 06/07 version of the Ducks.
The most recent Cup chance for the Leafs - early 90's when they were put out in game 7 of the conference finals by the Kings. Too bad, because it was probably the last best chance for a Leafs/Habs Stanley Cup final with the current set up. It would have been great for real hockey fans but Bettman's worst nightmare.

yea only 1 problem with that statement. Sens havent been in the NHL for 100 years lol. Little bit of a break between the 1920's and the 1990's dont you think ? Only 70 years, great point though LMAO.

Ottawa is embracing their losing spirit that has been with them since they returned to the NHL.
Maybe they will win the Cup before it hits 100 years hmm?

I guess the Laffs should be proud of missing the playoffs for the third year in a row.
They dont seem to know that the games played between October and early March actually count in the standings to.
If they could play the first 3.5 - 4 months of the season like they play the last month and a half maybe they might make the playoffs this decade but dont go holding your breath lol.

Unfortunately for the Sens, the window of opportunity (which has been open for at least 3 seasons) to win the cup has slammed shut. The many problems appearing in their post games of 2008 can be attributed to this failure to "seize the moment". Consequently, the Senators are mentally and psychologically baked!

Melynk blew it when he got rid of Jacques Martin and hired Muckler(replace the "M" with an F). Just looked what Muckler did with Edmonton, Buffalo and to some extent the Rangers. Everyone dumped on Martin when they failed to get to the big one but it was only a missed play against Jersey a few years back that kept them from getting there. Sure they made the Finals last year but that was all they did. The new management continues to plan for the day and not the future and by doing so are throwing it all away. Martin built that team from scratch and got it to where they were a few years ago, winning division and conference titles and moving an expansion team into elite one on a consistant basis. If you compare them to Tampa and yes, Tampa has a CUP but look where they are now. Sadly, the Sens are now heading into the direction of the Lightning.
As for Martin, he did the right thing by benching Spezza back in the days. He truly enforced the team philosophy, and by doing so, proved that 2nd 3rd and 4th lines would contribute as well. Now, the team relies on 3 or 4 players to do what everyone on that team should be doing. There is no Senators team anymore, just 6 guys on the ice trying to do their own thing.

Impressive comment from a Laffs fan that supports a losing team for 41 years.
You are a sucker and the management know it, they play you fools like a violin lol.
How many years has it been see the Laffs played in the playoffs again ? 3 lol
Will be another 4 or 5 till they make the playoffs again if then lol.
Speaking of golfing, dont try to get any tee times in the GTA, the Laffs have all the morning times booked till training camp starts in September lol.

The only thing the Sens can come back for is to clean out their Lockers, these boys just don't want to play,no heart. The only thing they all have in common is big bank accounts........

Were you even born the last time the almighty Leafs were in the stanley cup ? I will give you a hint then you can do the math to figure it out. The year was 1967.
Good luck and yes you may use a calculator lol.

The problems with the Sens is that they spend too much time in Downtown Ottawa, with it's drug infested Crackhead streets, instead of on the golf course. Oh sorry thats were they will be tomorrow morning choking up on their clubs instead of choking on the rink were they ALWAYS do.
