2012 GAMES

Are you happy with the Sens' offseason moves?
Thu, August 28, 2008

The Sens are a team that went to the Stanley Cup final two years ago before suffering a disappointing season in 2007-08.

They have a new coach and now no more Ray Emery.

Can the Senators turn it around and make a fresh start next season? Have your say in our forum.

Lol, Leafs fans are hilarious. Their team is very bad and has no hope for the immediate future, so all they can take pleasure in is the Sens failure. Kind of sad if you ask me.

Anyways, Murray won't be going anywhere. He won't be coaching but he'll still be GM. Why? Until this season the Sens were a highly successful franchise that he built and he also built Anaheim. Yes, it was Murray, NOT Burke. He is proven and will stay GM. That said, Alfie will stay. He is a leader, has skills and has become somewhat of a cornerstone to the Senators. Spezza and Heatley will also stay, UNLESS one of them can be dealt for a solid D-man, not a goalie. Despite all the bad press their goalies have gotten, Ottawa's real problem is their blue-line, as they goofed when they chose to go with Redden over Chara. They need a big, skilled guy back there and Spezza or Heatley would make a good starter guy in any sort of a deal, and a team like say, San Jose, may listen to a Heatley or Spezza for Campbell or Carle sort of deal. I say they will also keep Vermette, give Meszaros some more time and seeing Redden dealt wouldn't surprise me a bit as he underachieved to say the least.(Im not sure why Edmonton was mentioned in Redden's movement as their D, present and future, is stacked.) Emery will not be moved as no team will take on his salary and his 7 million buyout is too high. Sadly, Gerber will likely be the fall guy and get turfed, even though he did all he could with such a crappy defence in front of him.

All in all, the Sens do have a good core to build on. Despite the events of the last half of the season and subsequent playoff sweep, most teams would kill to have Alfie, Heatley and Spezza on one team. Even if you dont keep them all, trading even one of them gets you pretty much whatever you need in return. Murray will tweak in the off-season and the Senators will be back to form next season.Leafs fans, your team will continue to suck for at least a few more years, so Im not sure why you dump on Ottawa so much when their prospects are far more optimistic than Toronto's. Hopefully just good ol fashioned rivalry, but more likely just sour grapes.

Glad you can count. You see more Laffs sweaters at Sens home games ? Thats only because you are drunk and are seeing double lmao.

Dont blame you though, if I were a Loser Laff fan I would have to drink to watch them play lol.

If Sundin doesnt come back which is a strong possibilty you should have fun watching Stajan be your number 1 center lol. Wow what a number line that should be with Steen on 1 wing and Antropov ( mr injury prone ) on the other wing lol.

Laffs havent made the playoffs in 3 straight years. Do you have any idea how many playoff games the Sens have played in them 3 non playoffs years for the Laffs ?

You being a numb nut I am sure you dont. Only suckers support a organization like the Laffs that havent done anything in the last 41 years lol.

The Laffs will be lucky to make the playoffs in the next 4 or 5 years because they have zero young talent on the Marlies or in junior.

They have sucked for 4 decades and will suck for many years to come.

You can't win with a swedish captain. Case closed.

Rick W. I did watch last years playoffs and like every other year the senators choked I didn't see them hoisting a Cup. Nobody remembers or cares who comes in second. Coming in second is not what champions are made of.

I believe we're watching the Sens morph into a mirror image of their cross-province rivals. High priced, ineffective personnel - and a "maybe next year" mantra. Sound familiar?

I've said it before - you sign players to long-term high priced contracts (i.e. Spezza & Heatley) and their main objective becomes survival to the last year of their contract when they want to negotiate their next big deal. They usually have good regular seasons, but this doesn't help a team in a play-off run since the tendency is to play "soft" and not get hurt. Of course their are exceptions - Crosby, Mike Richards, Iginla, et al. These guys are competitors.

Rick, i see all you hens fans have no problem adding your comments when it concerns the leafs, but now that the shoe is on the other foot, we shouldn,t be adding our comments?what have your so called "great"team done that seperates them from all other teams? what championships have you won? would someone send me a picture of alfie skating around with the cup, wait a minute, their isn,t one , and their isn,t going to be one as long as he is with the hens.So keep pretending that because you backed into the playoffs and played four more games then the leafs, your are champions, if you listen carefully, you can hear alfie asking tucker on the golf course if he should apologize to Mark Bell for getting in his way and Mark having to run him over.ha, ha

Anyways, after all the fun making of our buds, it sure is fun to see you guys jump on and of the hens band wagon. My how soon the so called mighty have fallen.

the hens biggest problem is that they are a one line team. if the "big" line not producing, they are toast. and even that line is absolutely nothing without Alfredsson. well, just a bunch of chickens.

and you can't hang all the blame on Emery, if it takes one lousy player to screw up the team, they better just go home and mail their cheques to Melnyk. and i think last years final should have been a warning sign for them. it showed who they can just give up on themselves.

they have to get rid of Spezza and Redden. Spezza played like an idiot, Redden is soft and slow, he makes McCabe look like an all star. the new signings were useless as well. maybe whining Murray should go, too.

good golfing, hens!
