Are you happy with the Sens' offseason moves?
Thu, August 28, 2008

The Sens are a team that went to the Stanley Cup final two years ago before suffering a disappointing season in 2007-08.

They have a new coach and now no more Ray Emery.

Can the Senators turn it around and make a fresh start next season? Have your say in our forum.

Spezza just turned 25, he is by no means over the hill. Alfredsson has gotten better with age, although he'll take a step back soon, he had one of the highest PPG totals outside of three or four guys 10 - 15 years younger than him. Defense is solid, defensively at least. Depth isn't as bad is it's being made out to be. Only quesion is in goal but that might even be fine. They will make the playoffs for sure, but Spezza and Heatley have to follow Alfie's lead and pick it up this year in the post-season, past experience should help.

the question isn't whether they can or not. anything is possible. the real question is will they? the answer is: they have to. if not, more heads are going to roll.

Wow, whoever said Spezza is past his prime...He's not yet hit it.

This past season was playoff hangover...nothing more.Ottawa will struggle a little bit early and hit hit their stride, i think, by mid December and dominate the East with 2 other teams, probably philly and the pens and maybe the habs. They will be in top form by seasons end.

JimF, Spezza past his prime??? He's 25, just hitting his prime. Stick to things you know, which cleary is not hockey.

The Sens will be fine. Losing Emery, McGrattan, and Redden is addition by subtraction. There are a lot of question marks but I believe that all the naysayers and haters will be proven wrong.

the Sens have no killer instict, they will make the playoffs but they will be out in the first round, its gut check time for the Sens its time to make some changes while players still have some value left, Alfredson maybe able to help an up and coming team on the powerplay, but he is well past his prime, Spezza is also past his prime but with his size and strength he should be a good third liner on a team out west, its rebuilding time for the Sens, but things aren't all that bad, at least your not the Leafs, theres no upside to that team at all!!!!

Whole new season. Sens cut out what they think was the Cancer so we'll see if that did the job. Just cause the Wings won the cup doesn't mean crap this year.

Why the Leafs let Brendan Bell go elsewhere puzzles me to no end. Oh well, the Fergie effect continues... you guys just picked up a decent defender for free up there in Ottawa

They should be no worse than last year but not a powerhouse like in years past when they won their season titles.

Their core is still there but have some holes they need to plug on D and maybe the net.

Highly possibly in the top ten in the league.

Moving Redden and Emery will help lots and hopefully they can get a decent D-man to replace Mezzaros who has been horrid the past couple of years.

Ottawa's time has passed. When they had their chance, they didn't have the killer instinct.

Now they are just a good team, but not a great team.

Lots of question marks on defence and in net.
