Are you happy with the Sens' offseason moves?
Thu, August 28, 2008

The Sens are a team that went to the Stanley Cup final two years ago before suffering a disappointing season in 2007-08.

They have a new coach and now no more Ray Emery.

Can the Senators turn it around and make a fresh start next season? Have your say in our forum.

What specific ones did you have in mind Vince in Ottawa? Seems to me that, with the exception of the "Go Leafs Go" drivel (and those people are automatons), everyone else has pretty much confined their comments to the topic.

Hello everybody!!!!!!

This post site is about the Sens Hockey team. It's not about you guys!

Stop bickering and contribute something relevant to the subject.

Yes. The Senators realized that they needed a much needed veteran presence on the blue line and addressed throughout the summer. They also had to erase the Ray Emery distraction and they did that well. The only drawback is that they no longer have a proven puck moving defenceman or a proven quarterback on the power play. Time will tell when they can make a deal for that elusive defenceman that can combine both skills.

Having just dealt Maszeros to TB for Filip Kuba and Alexandre Picard, both D., and San Jose's 1st round pick next June means Murray only has to meet Kuba's $3 salary for this year and Picard's $800,000.00 one, rather than the $4 to 4/5 being demanded by Maszeros.

Kuba is Minnesota's alltime pts leader for D and at age 32 is another veteran presence back of the blue line. Also, now Murray has another 1st round pick to package in a deal for a second-line scoring F.

This could get interesting over the next few days.

Johnny, re that series last spring against Pittsburgh, I would have liked to have seen them go into that with Kelly, Fisher, and Alfreddson available. Alfie came back for games 3 and 4 but you could tell he was still suffering from that injury that shelved him. Those were three key players out all at the same time. Now, I know all about their swoon and problems and likely they woud have lost it anyway. But not 4 straight.

Sens have done a great job in keeping their best players. With all that young talent I think they are in great shape for next season. Sens may still be a bit weak in goal but they even in that position they are stronger than 25 other clubs. Murray should start acquiring some good young goaltenders. They look strong enough to do it this year.

For Murrays sake I hope these are the right moves. He always looks stressed to the max and ready to have the big one.Guess thats what happens when you carry the weight of the world on your shoulders.I predicted they would take the Penguins in 7,last spring, boy was I wrong. With the extra rest they had during the offseason and the new blood, they should come back energized and look like a new team this year.

After last season's fiasco, there's room for improvement. Hopefully the Sens have done that. As long as they make the playoffs then it's paid off. Otherwise, serious scrapping of the all the players will have to happen. unfortunately what it really comes down to getting good players is Money and even though Ottawa is the money political centre of the country it means nothing for the Sens. If only they had more money to buy "Great" players...

The Senators have been going down hill since the arrival of Mr. Murray. Just look at what is happening in front of our eyes. The team has gone from a contender to maybe making the playoffs this year.
