What should the Habs do in the off-season?
Thu, June 5, 2008

Having a big, tough team suits some NHL clubs, but isn't the top priority of the Montreal Canadiens.

So don't look for general manager Bob Gainey to dismantle his smooth-skating club after their playoff defeat to the bruising Philadelphia Flyers.

Gainey and Carbonneau met with the media to discuss the season that just ended, in which the unfancied Canadiens finished first in the Eastern Conference and in goal-scoring in the 30-team league.
Full story: Gainey will be busy in the off-season

What do you think Gainey should do with Canadiens over the summer?

I agree 100%, Jim. The Habs are the best team in Canada now but you'd never know it from the coverage on this website. Blow Leafs, blow!

The Habs are ready BABY!!!!

The habs remind me of the oilers a few years ago, they are getting solid goaltending their powerplay is phenomanal and that 6th player momentum just entered their dressing room, could be the year of the Habs, plus its time we pushed those teams from Ontario aside they suck!!!! Emery had his turn in the spotlighthe sucks!!!! and the Maple Laughs have had 40 non performance years in the spolight, leaf nation sucks even more than the leafs do!!!! GO HABS GO!!!!!

Hopefully they're ready. Nobody wants to watch the Sens choke in the playoffs- again!

Too many Euros!

They will fizzle fast.

They weren't supposed to make the playoffs. 90% of the media experts and arm chair know it alls picked the buds in and habs out.

The Canadiens are as ready as they'll ever be, and it'll be nice to see them go as far as they can this year.

The plan was to make the playoffs, and so far the team is right there. Gainey had said to be patient because players were developing and the team evolving.

1993, The Habs were not picked to win. Everything fell just right and aside from some timely goals and saves: luck, karma, and other teams injuries played a part in the Canadiens winning their 24th Stanley Cup.

I've been a Habs fans since childhood. I've seen

Cups in the late 60's, 70's, 86 and 93.

I say again if everything goes just right...

Go Habs Go!

I have to agree with the rest, goaltending is too green and the should the injury bug hit them they are in big trouble. Montreal has little depth. Yes I know Hamilton won the Calder Cup last year, but not ready for prime time.

Trading Huet instead of signing him to another year was a brain cramp. But I actually this Montreal team is pretty good otherwise --- they might do what Edmonton did recently, if Price can catch fire in the playoffs

I like the Habs' chances this year. I don't know if the Stanley Cup is a realistic possibility yet, but they have a team that can win a couple of rounds.

First round exit b/c of this move.

well bob im from your home town of peterborough and i wish you the best but i think your goaltending is too young to succeed this year and i hope it doesnt ruin carey price. he is not a dryden and a hole different game as you know because you were there.. good luck bob........
