What should the Habs do in the off-season?
Thu, June 5, 2008

Having a big, tough team suits some NHL clubs, but isn't the top priority of the Montreal Canadiens.

So don't look for general manager Bob Gainey to dismantle his smooth-skating club after their playoff defeat to the bruising Philadelphia Flyers.

Gainey and Carbonneau met with the media to discuss the season that just ended, in which the unfancied Canadiens finished first in the Eastern Conference and in goal-scoring in the 30-team league.
Full story: Gainey will be busy in the off-season

What do you think Gainey should do with Canadiens over the summer?

Hate away all you jealous whiners. The Habs are the best team in Canada whether you like it or not. And go move to your precious England, John, where you can join them in mourning the lost glory of the Empire. Canada is a multicultural country that doesn't want or need bigoted losers like you. Allez Habs; bury the Brins!

Mike - You're right about the cups, I missed a few.

And to a point I will agree

about issue with territory,

but you gotta give it the owners of the rest of the clubs most likely could have provoked change if they were not only toeing the line to protect their bottom line.

As for the wars it is shameful in a time of conscription that some chose not to go and were aided in staying.

The Yankees and Canadiens had it good and yeah, I know there is a lot of people that enjoy it when they fall for those resons and others. I'm NOT a Yankee fan!

I've been a Habs/Scabs fan since really small. and have seen my share of a lot of cheers and jeers. My first cup I remember seeing them win was 69 which was after the first expansion and the new rules concerning acquiring elegible players. While I've read the history - I never really considered feelings from fans of teams who felt screwed over for it. But I can't change history and won't change my allegiance to my team for the simple fact that I enjoy hockey for what it should be - Hockey.

You know this blog is open to people Canada wide, and I would hope everyone particicpating is a pruod Canadian. Where I'm from

I've lived through 3 referendums and seen my province's economy go down the toilet for a long time.

Lucky my job survived all the crap!

Had to listen and tolerate a whole lot of bull because of who I was and that I didn't just buy into change for language and culture's sake.

And While I enjoy hockey for simply what it is, I had to listen the same crap about what was one of the greatest rivalries in NHL history which was the Habs and Nordiques. The media used this to promote the differences coining the Habs as the Anglo team in the demonized city of perversion, and the Nordiques as the angelic saviours to a language and a culture. OH PUKE! It even started back up when Ottawa came back into the league, but times had changed and it fizzeled.

Truth is that sometimes looking back, I wish I could have been enjoying the Battle of Alberta or the Toronto-Detriot rivalry because it was just about hockey.

So if I am sensitive about

such issues being brought up when talking hockey, I"m

sorry - John that goes for you too - and I'll enjoy the creative back and forth on the blog.

Peace-out.

John, seems to me you have a whole lot of anger towards the Habs, whom you cleverly call the Scabs..haha what a rapier wit you have. Seems like they only won 2 of their Cups during the War, and that they have won a number of Cups after the 6 team era(8 by my count) sooooooo whats your deal? Are you a Leafs fan? If you are then you have my sympathy. Regardless, you're a bigoted twit whose words actually lower the intelligence of everyone who reads them.

John,

If you invest for tomorrow when will you spend. Actually try to be smart next time.

sorry everybody, i guess i put in a mistake, its next door, sorry.
RJ, 2008-04-09 15:57:19

Yes the habs are ready for the playoffs...and so are their fans.Huuummm!I'm wondering if TO is thinking about putting an NHL calibre team in the league soon.I hear they've been taking about it for a few decades now.

Go Habs,go Sens,Go Flames..Golf leafs.:)

Andy you only show 20 cups! Funny how Habs I mean Scabs fans can can't take the fact that many people despise their team and location. Your wrong on territories only Montreal had that as a accommodation. None of us need your lessons Andy. Didn't Rocket Richard play hockey for your team when the rest of the men were fighting a war. Fail Habs Fail

Mike, John,

You can go into your room and suck your little Toronto Maple Leaks pellow while the guy next store has a model of the Stanley Cup in his Montreal Canadiens Trophy case.
RJ, 2008-04-09 06:14:13

John - Now for your lesson in hockey history.

Lesson # 1

Every team in the original six had a territory.

Each team was responsible for scouting, recruiting, and signing players.

Now if the Habs had better management practices and were better at doing this

tough titties!

Lesson # 2.

Cups won during WW1

1- 1915-16.

Cups won during WW2.

1- 1945-46.

1950's - 5

1960's - 5

1970's - 6

+ 86 + 93.

John, before you spout crap - DO YOUR HOMEWORK!
Andy V., 2008-04-08 23:32:43

Scabs -eh? John.

Good bloody thing that most Canadians are not like you. What ever your team, you must have spent years thinking of that one.

You and people like you are like dimosaurs; doomed to extinction. I can't believe the classless, bigoted crap but then hey,

it takes all kinds right?

Pathetic ? THIS BLOG IS ABOUT HOCKEY! You're the one that's pathetic - Now why don't you crawl back into your stinking hole and rot.
