What should the Habs do in the off-season? Thu, June 5, 2008
Having a big, tough team suits some NHL clubs, but isn't the top priority of the Montreal Canadiens.
So don't look for general manager Bob Gainey to dismantle his smooth-skating club after their playoff defeat to the bruising Philadelphia Flyers.
Gainey and Carbonneau met with the media to discuss the season that just ended, in which the unfancied Canadiens finished first in the Eastern Conference and in goal-scoring in the 30-team league.
Full story: Gainey will be busy in the off-season
What do you think Gainey should do with Canadiens over the summer?

RJ - center... I'm a Habs fan and would love to get Zetterberg for Plekanec, but I don't think even if we bribed Ken Holland with a lifetime pass to a private dance box at Chez Paree that he would do it.

RJ - i was totally kidding. i meant that you had to get ken holland drunk before a trade like that would happen

To sum up the playoffs for the Habs just look which line was the best. It was the checking line. They played hard, took the puck to the net and were willing to take a hit to make a play and would stand in front of the net to screen Biron and look for rebounds. If the scoring lines played as hard as they did they might still be playing.
The playoffs are still old time hockey even in the " new " NHL. Its hard hitting and tight checking just as it always has been.
Gainey needs to add more physical forwards that will go to the net and in the corners and make room for the soft europeans that didnt want anything to do with the hard hitting style of playoff hockey.

Zetterberg for Plekanic?
What is "center of the universe" thinking?

JoeCanuck,
i have the same problem with refs. they are terribly inconsistent, one moment they call something, the next moment they let it go...

Maybe Montreal should learn not to celebrate a 1/4 final win. How about the riots, maybe the Habs should buy the cops some new cars..... LOL

The Habs lost the series because they kept losing the race for the puck.
Give aways, sloppy play, basically no heart from some of the key players who received the most ice time. There were some notable exceptions, Koivu being one of them...one of the hardest working men in hockey.
Too many fancy floaters, not enough grinders. The flyers wanted it more. That's it.
If you can't stay in the game for the full 60 in the playoffs, get out of the game.
On a side note, are my expectations much too high or is the reffing in the playoffs terrible...?
