What should the Habs do in the off-season?
Thu, June 5, 2008

Having a big, tough team suits some NHL clubs, but isn't the top priority of the Montreal Canadiens.

So don't look for general manager Bob Gainey to dismantle his smooth-skating club after their playoff defeat to the bruising Philadelphia Flyers.

Gainey and Carbonneau met with the media to discuss the season that just ended, in which the unfancied Canadiens finished first in the Eastern Conference and in goal-scoring in the 30-team league.
Full story: Gainey will be busy in the off-season

What do you think Gainey should do with Canadiens over the summer?

Habs are young, fast and skilled and Price has been great. Pens are very similar but Im not convinced about Fleury yet, and to say they will be able to bang with any Western team is a big stretch. Calgary, San Jose, Anaheim, Minny..all would eat Pittsburgh alive. As for the East, I think too many people are focusing on Montreal and Pittsburgh, and forgetting about Philly and teh Rangers. They're both looking good, and TOUGH. Philly in particular. I think Philly or NY would do better against whomever wins the West.

The Rangers will be coming out of the East this year. Mark my words!!!

John you wish Price was overrated.

Price probably the best goalie in the league, at least in the play-offs. he certanly makes Gainey look like a genious. but the team looked a bit shaky in the last three games, they are lucky the bruins can't score. they better get their offensive game back to where it was before.

How quickly we forget 2004 when the Bruins finished the season first overall in the east and faced the Habs in the first round.I recall the Bruins being up three games to one and the gritty Habs who played with more heart then talent took the Bruins three games straight to put them out.Gentlemen the table is set and history is about to repeat.

The Habs should go a couple of rounds and even have a legitimate shot of beating the Pens to make the finals. I think that's a 50/50 situation depending upon who is more beat up at that point. The problem will be the finals. From what I've seen of San Jose and Calgary, both those teams seem to be skating circles around any team from the east. Right now I'd say that the western teams look stronger and it might be tough to beat them in the final.

Montreal would have to start skating a lot better, Koivu needs to be back and healthy, Kovalev's line has to start scoring and Komisarek has to get his game back to lay down the boom on those big western forwards, if the Habs are to have a chance.

John, Price has proven he wins at every level. If anyone is over rated so far it is Fleury. He hasnt lived up to his high expectations as of yet. I will wait and see how far the Pens go and how much of a factor he is.

John

Price is over rated ? Are you for real dude ? He has won at every level. He won the world junior championship ( stoned the americans in the shootout ) and then he finished the year playing in the AHL and won the calder cup as a 19 year old playing against men.

I have read alot of rubbish comments but you take the cake lol.

And how's your team doing, John? Go have a good cry on Don Cherry's shoulder.
