What should the Habs do in the off-season?
Thu, June 5, 2008

Having a big, tough team suits some NHL clubs, but isn't the top priority of the Montreal Canadiens.

So don't look for general manager Bob Gainey to dismantle his smooth-skating club after their playoff defeat to the bruising Philadelphia Flyers.

Gainey and Carbonneau met with the media to discuss the season that just ended, in which the unfancied Canadiens finished first in the Eastern Conference and in goal-scoring in the 30-team league.
Full story: Gainey will be busy in the off-season

What do you think Gainey should do with Canadiens over the summer?

Here's why, Wayne. I live in Boston, where I was born and raised, and don't speak French that well. However, I've been a Habs fan for 60 years now and have never waivered in my loyalty to the team, regardless of their performance.

Talk about your chokers, this takes the cake. It just shows you need more than just talent. On paper this series was a mismatch, Habs have way more talent than the Bruins but what really matters is how much heart you have and the Bruins have more heart than the soft, fraidy cat Habs they dont seem to want to touch the puck anymore.

Gainey was wrong about this team, hopefully he adds some big physical players that can play on the first 2 lines in the summer. The Habs are playing like girls and getting pushed around.

I am embarrassed for them and I am not a Habs fan. This is a disgrace. I cant wait for the Habs to be out so I dont have to watch this sad excuse of a mens team anymore.

Its like the men ( Bruins ) against the boys ( Habs ), its frigging pathetic.

Na Na Na Na, Hey, Hey Goodbye Habs !

I cant believe what a bunch of pussies the Habs have turned into. Not only are they not willing to take a hit to set up a play now they are so afraid of getting hit they cant clear the puck out of there own end.

Kovalev blew last nights game by not getting the puck out. What a chicken shit.

Bruins will win the series now, they have the habs shaking in there skates.

I guess we shouldnt be surprised with all them europeans that they lack heart and determination to take hits to make plays.

Join the Sens and Laffs on the golf course Habs, you deserve to be out with your suck hole play.

Well it looks like the Bruins have become Montreal's worst nightmare and found their scoring. Price played well and got little help from his defence tonight. This looks set for a great last game and proves again that the seasons series result means squat in the playoff series.

I had predicted Habs in 6. Anyone who thinks that this was going to be a sweep couldn’t have been more wrong for a number of reasons. The odds were stacking up against Montreal. Sooner or later they had to loose to Boston. Playoff hockey is quite different than regular season. And if any of you remember the 2003/04 season? Take a guess who Montreal’s coach was when they, as the seventh place team upset the second place Bruins. Non other than Claude Julien. To blame Price for the loss of game 5 is wrong. I trust that he will be solid tonight and my prediction will come true. Now I’m going to watch the game. And yes, I'm a Habs fan.

Hopefully not past the first round.

Many of their fans seem obnoxious on forums and in person when they show up in numbers at opposing teams rinks (try not ole-ing or booing the home team when you're in Boston - that's just being a polite guest).

This is what builds ill will towards the Habs and the Leafs (actually for any team that has a lot of fans show up in opposing rinks). If, when we went to see our home teams play against Toronto or Montreal we didn't have 100s of screaming buffoons taunting us over the Habs and Leafs successes then we might actually want to get behind them and see them win when they had a chance.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of fans that aren't happy just celebrating there teams successes. They want to rub the opposing fans noses in it.

Hab fans, more importantly George "know it all" O'leary, getting nervous. Hardly the sweep you all predicted.

Roy

Canoe has asked us for our thoughts on how far we think the habs will go.

From what I have seen most seem to think they will go far this year.

If you are in Quebec why are you in an Ontario newspaper site crying about some negative comments by fans who arent Habs fans ?

Cant you make comments in your french newspapers about your beloved Habs who last year I bet you wouldnt admit you were there fan you closet Habs fan lol.
Wayne, 2008-04-19 12:17:17

Why don't all you Habs haters in la pas belle province of Ontario go worry about your own pro hockey team- the Marlies!
Roy, 2008-04-19 08:02:45

Guys, it's still 3-2 in games for the Habs. Price has been above average for the 12 games preceding last night - and he did not get muxch help from his friends.

Let's not forget the Habs have been playing without their Captain and second line center - this is a big hole that they've not adjusted to and when pressed, it shows.

Even if Koivu does not return, I believe it's over Saturday night in Boston. Carbonneau will have his team ready, and so far every time they,ve laid an egg for a game - the Habs this season have always come back strong the next...and have usually won. I had predicted Habs in 6 in my pool.
