What should the Habs do in the off-season? Thu, June 5, 2008
Having a big, tough team suits some NHL clubs, but isn't the top priority of the Montreal Canadiens.
So don't look for general manager Bob Gainey to dismantle his smooth-skating club after their playoff defeat to the bruising Philadelphia Flyers.
Gainey and Carbonneau met with the media to discuss the season that just ended, in which the unfancied Canadiens finished first in the Eastern Conference and in goal-scoring in the 30-team league.
Full story: Gainey will be busy in the off-season
What do you think Gainey should do with Canadiens over the summer?

Roy,
Only 1 thing wrong with your comment, the Habs didnt win the cup, they won a first round series.

Thanks for sharing that highly informative "Worst fans ever!" commentary, Bill. I'll bet the entire rocket science industry is proud of you.

The post game idiocy is obviously disgraceful but the same thing might well happen if an Ontario team won the Cup. We'll never know, though.

Any worse than those in Edmonton the year they won 3 playoff rounds before losing to Carolina in the finals?

The name I'm using reflects my utter amazement at just how ill-informed some people are.
SHarks Fan says "Your eastern conference (like in most U.S. leagues) is pathetic and the real teams are out west."
Over the past 15 seasons (those that were played anyway), the East has won 8 Cups to the West's 7 in the NHL. In the World Series, a team from the east has won - hmmmm - 8 World Series western cities' 7. And wouldn't you know it? In the NFL an eastern city has won 8 of the last 15 Super Bowls.
Maybe what he says is true in the NBA. But then who the hell cares?

Another pathetic display by the fairweather Habs fans. No wonder more people including myself hate them than like them. Fail Habs Fail, you were lucky in the first round. P.S. You can keep Dryden.

What a sad display...booing a national anthem (classy) and then rioting...let alone after a FIRST series win...could all the mayhem have to do with the fact habs fans realize this will be the last time to celebrate a 4th win in a best of 7 with a fluffy-puff-built-for-the-regular-season team? Honestly dont really mind the habs...just have a hard time believing a team of fragile kovalev-ites backed by a rookie goalie is going to be able to go on a deep run, let alone touch the cup...

Well said, Trev. I'm a Sens fan, too. And, as easy as it is to hate all things Leaf, it is equally easy to respect and admire all things Hab. I, too, will not be flying flags or burning cars, just cheering my ass off for the Habs.

Im a Ottawa fan but since they choked again I will support montreal and Calgary. I do believe Montreal has a great team but they are not cup bound this year. It will be Pittsburg or Rangers in the East. And Detroit and Colorado in the West.
