What should the Habs do in the off-season?
Thu, June 5, 2008

Having a big, tough team suits some NHL clubs, but isn't the top priority of the Montreal Canadiens.

So don't look for general manager Bob Gainey to dismantle his smooth-skating club after their playoff defeat to the bruising Philadelphia Flyers.

Gainey and Carbonneau met with the media to discuss the season that just ended, in which the unfancied Canadiens finished first in the Eastern Conference and in goal-scoring in the 30-team league.
Full story: Gainey will be busy in the off-season

What do you think Gainey should do with Canadiens over the summer?

Loser since 67 and probably allot longer. You asked, here you, they don't require much, they are a very good team. They need a bonafide number one goalie for starts. Price will be that goalie one day but not yet. Secondly they need a bonafide star scorer besides Kovalev. The team is very solid, plays tough, best power play last year etc. etc. They need only tweak the team, next time they have the opportunity to get a Hossa or Brier type player, do whatever necessary to get him. Don't take no for an answer. Oh and lastly although it won't win them a Stanley Cup, give Corey Locke a chance, he's only been a winner everywhere he's played.

I'll let Bob Gainey decide.

What about you Pete??...Why don't you surprise us "commom mortals" and tell us what your opinion actually is ? If you don't have one,then...what purpose, other then bashing intelligent people, have you got for being here?..If it's to show how much of a cretin you truly are,then...we got the point ages ago.Get an education, learn how to spell, learn some manners,...then...get a life...if you must !!

peter puffer aka pete puck for brains lol

Well its hard for them to have big tough forwards when all they draft are small, soft europeans ya goof lol.

Your lame comments amaze me, I cant believe you have the motor skills to dress yourself in the mornings lol.

Wayne, you never cease to amaze me with your wealth of knowledge. You and DisgruntledFan have something in common, you both come out with these amazing facts. WAKE UP STUPID, every team in the NHL would like to have bigger, tougher forwards who go into corners, fight, lead and score goals. Your comment is absolutely commical.

Bigger tougher forwards that will go in the corners and the front of the net and take hits to make plays.

They have the skill but not the toughness or leadership.

Easy answer, they dont need a coach because they dont have anyone to coach. Let Sundin really earn his many millions a year and be a player coach because after the game he always says lame things like we didnt play well enough in our own end. Well take a good hard look in the mirror answer man you are like McCabe in your own end, lost.

They are overpaid and bums, wouldnt know a honest days work if it bit them in there lazy asses. They play less than 25 minutes a night and still cant give 100 %, what a disgrace they all are. They are out coasting around waiting for the puck to magically come to them then they give 100 % playing offence, when they turn the puck over which is most of the time they give up and coast back to there own end.

If I did as little as these " pro athletes " do at my job I would be fired in a heart beat, and thats a 8 hour shift not less than 30 minutes a night.

They better clean up this poor excuse of a pro team in the summer or they will have 1 less fan come October. I am sick and tired of watching these " atheltes " simply going through the motions night after night just to collect there 6 figure paycheck every 2 weeks.

Suck back a couple of cold Molson Canadian Drafts. Watch their friends play, Have a BBQ and invite everyone over, Take off somewhere warm, doscouver Buried or sunken teasure and figure out where they went wrong.

I think the Canadiens need to get bigger and tougher up front. Maybe trade Koivu and another "European" or so and get some good guys who can play and hit.

They have too many small, fancy players who skate around the perimeter and aren't willing to pay the price to win.

That said, they had an overachieving season and because of that, too much was expected of them in the playoffs.
