Can the Leafs reel in the last playoff spot?
Sat, March 22, 2008

The Leafs lose the easy ones but win the tough ones.

After shedding three players at the NHL trade deadline, the Leafs have 20 games to close the gap on 8th place in the East, but will need some help.

Can the Leafs perform the improbable and reel in a playoff spot?

Methinks Buddy is throwing out deliberately-slanted "Leafs-are-the-greatest" comments to stir up the excrement. I mean, the water can't be THAT bad up on the Cape.

buddy, i dont know what is wrong with you but stop claiming that the leafs will make playoffs, it wont happen, and toskala wont get Veniza and Kubina or Kaberle will not win norris, they wont even be mentioned.

I dont know if you watched the game last nightbut the leafs only came back from a one goal lead, and Toskala let in a goal from 193 feet.

Even if they do, this Sens team will not wilt like the teams of the past, so getting in the playoffs would only prolong the inevitable by 4-5 games. That and lose any chance of getting an impact player in the draft. If I were a Leaf fan I'd be cheering for every other team to beat the Leafs this year. Lately it seems all they'ved done is play themselves out of getting Stamkos.

Another incredible comeback for the Leafs! And they were missing their top 2 players. They never quit or give up. Too bad they have had so many injuries this year. If they were healthy they would be on top of the standings. Even so, they'll still make the playoffs and with any luck the Habs will be their first victims. After another amazing performance last night, Toskala should now be the choice for a Vezina trophy. The way he plays reminds me of Johnny Bower in his prime. And Kaberle and Kubina should both be strong favourites for a Norris trophy.

The Toronto Maple Leafs ... 2007-2008 Stanley Cup champions!! I've already got my plane tickets booked to Toronto for the celebrations in June.

That`s real smart John B."stay on our own site".

This site is a natioanl site and all they do in the sports section is throw Toronto in our face caost to coast. Everybody and I mean everybody is fed up of the leafs and there failure to be competitive. No where else on this palnet would they hold a celebration to comemerate 40 years since the last time they won a cup. I couldn`t believe they did that last season, what a joke your media and organization are. "Go any other Canadian team GO"

John B., those 13 Cup banners were all put up before color T.V. and all the team members are now collecting their pensions. Another season?!? lol! It will be another 2 if Leafs nation is very fortunate but it's not the players fault, it's the bonehead management's.

The reason I haven't commented on an Oilers thread lately is because there ARE NONE, even though they are starting to make a real push, minus their top center, top d-man and their captain with a total of what? 298 man games lost to injury? but I guess that isn't newsworthy considering that the Leafs sometimes win a game.
Norbit, 2008-03-18 20:06:53

True enough about those banners, John B. But you have to admit, it was infinitely easier to win a cup with just 6 teams in the league and only two series to win (maybe upwards of 8 or 9 in the very early days) than it is now with 30, and needing to win 4 series and 16 games.

Chances are obviously slimmer by the day,but true Leafs fans keep the faith, some day....as to all the Leaf bashers, just worry about your own team and stay on your own site,oh yes not much interest in those sites is there?Yea so our Leafs are likely out of it for another season but we still luv them! And the last I looked they had 13 Cup banners hanging from the rafters.

While I would normally agree, jim f., as I indicated further down in this thread every time they tried to introduce a thread on one of those other teams, it just seemed to die after a few posts. Why, I can't say - but the facts are there. Scroll down through the threads listed to the right and see for yourself.
