Can the Leafs reel in the last playoff spot?
Sat, March 22, 2008

The Leafs lose the easy ones but win the tough ones.

After shedding three players at the NHL trade deadline, the Leafs have 20 games to close the gap on 8th place in the East, but will need some help.

Can the Leafs perform the improbable and reel in a playoff spot?

I hope they make the playoffs. I hope they win the cup. I really do. Improbable, but no more improbable than the 66-67 Leaf lineup. Maybe the humiliation they have gone through over the past few weeks will find some deeper strength in them. God I hope so.

Do you think that Leafs should lose deliberaty? Not

very sportsmanlike!

Although I think it is extremely unlikely that the Leafs will manage to secure a playoff spot, tanking it isn't the answer either. People pay loads of money to see the team play and don't want to pay to see them lose. Also, some players are playing for their futures and it would be ridiculous to expect them to tank games. We need to be patient, dump some salary and rebuild with whatever tools are available. Fletcher has proven in the past that he can get a lot done with very little. Certainly the fact that he managed to get a reasonable return by trading three players who's departure won't have any impact on the Leafs slim chances of still making the post-season, while still providing some potentially useful draft choices is an encouraging sign. Personally I would still like to see the Leafs make the playoffs this year, even though I think that it is extremely unlikely that they will.

TO David:

You must have been dropped on your head as a child. A lot of name calling. By the way...what is a "ludasris!"? Its quite clear you don't like the Leafs. Who cares what you think.

the nerve of these guys man, Sundin is treating the Leafs like he owns them, if he really wanted to help the team he could have went to another playoff contender and had a chance to win a cup and come back in the off season

This is a totally stupid question. What are they going to do win every game till the playoffs while everyone else looses every game? It is the same for my Oilers as they are tied (last I checked before tuesday's game). Good thing the kings really suck. Or we'd be tied for the worst of the worst.

I totally agree with the previous comment. Missing the playoofs by a few points again this year only hurts our chances in the draft lottery this summer. Tank the season before it's too late!!

Hopefully Fletcher can dump some more turds via buyout and flip that 2nd, 3rd and 2x 5th into some decent moves combined with a freefall lottery choice. Pick HIGH in '08 Fletcher and tell your replacement to to pick HIGH in '09, anything else is ludasris!

These selfish pricks cant even lose properly! Stamkos + a good draft then again next year Tavares. if i hear the word Playoffs again i will snap! Idiots, just lose like the crap team you are. Sundin, Kaberle and Toskela belong in the NHL and are good enough for the blue and white...
