Can the Leafs reel in the last playoff spot?
Sat, March 22, 2008

The Leafs lose the easy ones but win the tough ones.

After shedding three players at the NHL trade deadline, the Leafs have 20 games to close the gap on 8th place in the East, but will need some help.

Can the Leafs perform the improbable and reel in a playoff spot?

I feel bad for leaf fans. There not going to get in the playoffs and there draft pick is going to suck. They have few promising young players. Absolutely no hope for the future.

We'll get 8th or 9th place no matter what ! 8th place in the draft, 8th place in the East. Now that's worth a few condo sales...

After the leafs lose tonite, they should start a new thread and ask the leaf fans who they are going to cheer for in the playoffs. Go habs Go.

say what you want about Sens fans, but our team has a realistic shot at the Stanley Cup every year. You freaks in Toronto think winning 2 games in a row is cause for a damn parade!

Some of us prefer to think for ourselves and put our allegiances behind teams that have hope. Leafs fans, you people are just sad.

Habs fans are a bunch of band wagon hoppers? I've seen some stupid comments in here but you win first prize, DM. You deserve to be a Maple Losers fan; 41 years and counting!

There have been numerous comments submitted about this site - and those responding - being Toront0-centric. Well duh! Look at the facts when it comes to the various threads:

Leafs

What should the Leafs do? - 788

Should McCabe be traded - 159

Can the Leafs reel in the last playoff spot - 122

Will the Leafs make the playoffs - 115

Should Sundin seek a trade - 63

Is Sundin the best Bud ever - 53

Who should be the next Leafs GM - 46

Shuld the Leafs get rid of JFJ - 40

Are the Leafs too pampered - 29

Has Toskala silenced the goalie controversy - 28

Will Jason Blake's play be affected by cancer - 26

Who should be the Leafs No. 1 goalie - 26

Senators

Are the Sens better with Stillman and Commodore - 93

Was John Paddock's firing necessary - 65

Who should be the Sens starting goalie - 50

Is Dany Heatley worth $45M - 41

Have the Sens spent themselves into a hole - 40

Should the Sens be worried - 32

Is Alfreddson Hart material - 15

Clearly, any thread on the Leafs attracts considerably more attention than any devoted to the Sens. And where the rest of the Canadian teams are concerned both far exceed them:

What's plaguing the Canucks has dran 4 comments to date, while Are the Habs ready for the playoffs has generated 16 - and both are currently spot-lighted here.

Should the Flames trade Alex Tanguay drew 8 comments, and for "Can the Oilers turn their season around" there were all of 16.

Easy to see why they concentrate on the Leafs and Sens.

DM, put the Hens fans into that category, too. They are far worse. :-)

It makes sense...typical Habs fans fashion...hide in the closet when your team stinks and come out when things are rosey. Typical ... red (neck), white (ghost, invisible when losing) and blue (always crying whether you win or lose)... typical Habs fans. There aren't more bandwagoners than you guys. I hope the Leafs do make spot #8 and face Montreal as the top seed in the East. It would be great to stick it you Habs fans like we did in game 82 last season. Can the Leafs make it... it may be a longshot but give me the twelve games of the regular season with same passion and intensity as I hate the Habs and they'll definelty make it. Playoff fever is now.

Hi!

It's been a few years that I started watching Canadians again with some seriousness. I know we had a great deal of rivalry between the Habs and the Leafs. Good years between Shack and Furgeson shows. Yes better hockey than you will see anytime soon.

I seem to see the Leafs name pop up everywhere and I for one say let it go. Give these poor bastards a break from the limelite so that they can regain composure. It's not see being the big and somewhat renound city of Toronto, but the team is hurting and it should be given a chance to collect itself and go back to basics. Get rid of the heavy's who think that nothing else exists but the Leafs or the other pro teams and ad nosium. Give it a break. It's like there are no other teams out there that deserves better new. Thanks.

No wonder they charge those outrages prices for tickets, there are people that still think the leafs are contenders. Snap out of it people. Quit going to the games and they might give you a team some day.
