Will anyone take Ray Emery?
Fri, June 20, 2008

The Senators are saying goodbye to goaltender Ray Emery.

In the wake of several incidents involving both the team and member of the public over the past couple of seasons, Emery has been served with a buyout notice by the club and has been placed on NHL waivers.

I don't beleive we'd be having this particular conversation had Murray gotten rid of the head case when he had the chance. Murray should have traded the egomaniac for a draft pick/bucket of pucks/roll of tape or anything he could get for a flash-in-the-pan goalie who considers himself bigger than the team and bigger than the game. That said, hopefully we can still pick it up from here. Go Sens go.

Yes. It is unfortunate, but yes. Paddock is a great hockey man, but what have you done for me lately? Welcome to professional sports people.
K Fox, 2008-02-28 10:05:17

Yes,it was. Most importantly...:Why ,other then being the GM's "friend",was he put in that position in the first place? As much as I respect Brian Murray,I feel that the finger should be pointed at him as well...same goes for the resigning of Emery to a huge, undeserving multi-million contract. What really baffles me though is this:If Paddock was fired for not doing the job he was hired to do,why in hell is Eli Wilson,Emery's "buddy",still at his job? I mean ,as the goalie coach, what in the world has he done to better this team? Wasn't he hired at Emery's "request"? Mr. Muckler must have a big grin on his face these days.
Joe Meloche, 2008-02-28 09:53:23

Yes, Paddock's firing was unfortunately, necessary. He failed to instil discipline when required. That is only half the equation.

Emery must GO!

It is evident that he is a cancer on this team. He put himself ahead of the team, repeatedly with no serious consequences to himself.

After his first outburst, he should have ridden the pines for at least one month. After his second stunt, he should have been sent down to the minors. The risk of him being picked up by another club at that time would have been worth it. Because all of these things that Emery got away with, the team faltered, and the coach lost his job. Ray Emery is the Number one reason why this team is in a big mess. He is not the only reason, but the number one reason.

While the coach is always the scapegoat, I think it was a good decision by Bryan Murray.

They needed to do something to turn the team around and firing the coach was the easiest thing to do.

We thought we got rid of Jacques Martin a few seasons ago. We don't need more emotionless, stubborn coaches. Pat Burns, or his ilk, YES!
Dunno Donald, 2008-02-28 00:51:17

Doesn't matter what we think, Murray pulled the plug because he can. Although I'm not a fan of Brian he was hired to fire. Just can't believe that Emery is still in the fold and Paddock did not have anything to do with that. So that was why Low was let go , all this hinged on goalie coaches??? Sad commentary. And after all the top dogs signed below their free market worth, they made a big mistake and one that will carry over to other teams top earners.

Those who panic at the first sign of trouble don't have the perseverance needed to succeed. The Sens wouldn't go far in the playoffs.
Russ, 2008-02-27 23:02:00

Yes the firing was justified, check his Pro record as a coach/assistant, he belongs in the minors !
kevbr, 2008-02-27 22:48:34

Nope. Firing the coach is a cop-out; always has been. Professional athletes shouldn't require a coach to fire them up; they are paid to perform. Could you imagine this happening in any other profession?

They were winning under Paddock for a large stretch of the season... this is nothing more than overreaction.

This tells the rest of the league that the Sens are no threat this season. Fragile minds with massive egos.
