Will anyone take Ray Emery?
Fri, June 20, 2008

The Senators are saying goodbye to goaltender Ray Emery.

In the wake of several incidents involving both the team and member of the public over the past couple of seasons, Emery has been served with a buyout notice by the club and has been placed on NHL waivers.

I disagree about Fisher. He isn't a guy who will give you big offensive numbers but he plays hard on a regular basis. If he's been somewhat invisible lately, he's no different than EVERY other player on the team right now. Ottawa needs a Canadian captain who can play hard and set that example.

As much as I love Heatley and Spezza, I agree that Bryan Murray should take a hard look at moving them. In my estimation, EVERY player on this team should be made available in the off season.

Have to agree with you Dave in NS. Almost completely. In the final analysis, this has to be among the most over-rated teams in the history of the NHL. They do need to be GUTTED, starting with the man you want to give the "C" to - Fisher. He is next to useless as an offensive player. Hell, if the new GM has any guts (there WILL be a new GM when this edition of last season's Edmonton Oilers finish their spiral down the toilet) he'd also try and deal Heatley and Spezza for solid, sand-up-their-butt players with grit and some measure of offensive talent. They don't need to be 50-goal scorers - just solid two-way players.

Don't worry about Redden. He's a UFA and only an idiot would bring him back at his inflated salary.
George O'Leary, 2008-03-07 07:31:28

I wonder if the Sens are now regretting letting Chara walk and keeping Redden. Chara's a perennial Norris candidate and Redden seems to be washed up.

I hate to say it but a major shakeup is likely needed in Ottawa. Redden needs to go, Meszaros should be traded, and Alfie should be traded while he's still a valuable asset. As good as Alfie is, we aren't going to win the Cup with him as captain, and the only way to have another captain is to get rid of him. Mike Fisher has been waiting for the 'C' long enough and he deserves it.

This team reminds me of the Blue Jays in 1994... they had talent to spare but could not win. The entire Ottawa lineup needs to be altered in a big way. Get rid of the guys like Redden who don't have the heart and grit a championship team needs. Guys like Lapointe, Stillman, and Commodore should be re-signed as they've proven in the past that they can go all the way.

Clearly, Larry, you don't practice what you preach. Or are your opinions the only ones that don't fall into the "motor-mouth experts" category?

This forum is open to everyone and their opinions. Doesn't make them right - just their opinions. You certainly don't have to agree with them - but then, when it comes to insults, shut your pie-hole.
George O'Leary, 2008-03-06 14:03:39

Seems everybody is an expert these days. As soon as a team is down (regardless of the reason) they are scum) and when they win the "experts" expected it. The Sens need all the support they can get right now from fans (real fans ..not the motor mouths who seem to take up most of this space. Yes..Gerber needs a real chance..Emery need to become toast ASAP...bring up Glass from AHL SENS as backup and Redden needs to be gone this summer to make room for someone who works hard and cares too!(anyone with enouth brains to cover the head of a pin can see that)

I agree with those who say Bryan had to do what he had to do but let's wait until the team is all back in place again before wasting everyone's time with "expert" advice. They may not have enough time left to pull this off this year and I bet the motormouths will have a field day with that one!
Larry James, 2008-03-06 13:24:08

By the time they get back from this west coast trip, and face Boston at home (the first game back usually a dud for any team returning from a long road trip) they could very well be flirting with 8th/9th.

If the worst happens and they fall right out of the playoff picture I wouldn't want to be around when Melnyk makes an appearance from his hideaway in Bermuda. Murray and the rest of the coaching staff could be handed their walking papers as well, and massive changes could be made to that underachieving roster.
George O'Leary, 2008-03-05 09:33:47

Necessary, YES. Should it have come to that NO. I get $65000 a year busting my balls; "THEY" by average make $2.2 million each! Time for the Captain and the Assistants to MAN UP, take ownership of their pathetic efforts and start working for their money. There is one off topic commonality amongst 3 Canadian teams... Blond, Swedish, team Captains, over paid, under worked = NO STANLEY CUPS.

Maybe they should fire the coach again.
Dwain, 2008-03-04 14:25:56

Don`t the Sens have any minor league goalies even if they are no good they can`t be worse for the TEAM than EMERY? Send Emery home pay his salary if you have to,he is only trouble and poison. Gordon

I didn't watch the game last night, but from what people who did tell me...the officiating was really bad. Are the new rules that came into play 2 years ago not working? sounds like it's not. funny last year seemed to be fine for ottawa, but not Toronto and now it doesnt' seem to be good for either team. i thought with Bryan behind the bench, things would change. well, there is still time until the end of March. I'll wait until then to pass judgement even though it isn't looking good right now.
