What's your reaction to NHL trade deadline day?
Mon, February 25, 2008

Aside from a December deal that saw Anaheim move Andy McDonald to St. Louis for Doug Weight in a salary-cap related move, the four-player transaction between the Ottawa Senators and Carolina Hurricanes mercifully gave hockey fans a trade that actually had some serious news value.

The question is, will Monday's deal kickstart more moves between now and the Feb. 26 trade deadline? Have your say in our forum.

Will the NHL trade deadline be very busy?

Looks like Toronto is trying to get the first place pick next year honestly! Welcome to another half decade of mediocrity Leaf fans, I can hear the players chanting....

hell no!

we won't go!

Fletch didn't clean house, he folded napkins.

Hey i would just like to thank Bob Gainey for keeping his word. He said "I wont make a trade unless its an impact player" and he did, he traded our #1 goalie for a bag of pucks. He traded away our impact player....in a move as brilliant as sending Patrick Roy to Colorado for nothing Gainey's blunder ranks right up there. Thank you for assuring that Montreal will finish out of the playoffs....again....we would be better off with Furgeson as GM.

Haha Vince in Ottawa, it's quite funny isn't it, Richards to Dallas, Hossa to Pitsburg, Cambell to San Jose, Huet to Washington. IT's always the teams who dont talk about it get the real prize. :)

I think Philly getting Prospal is being overlooked. This is a very nice addition for very little cost. When Lupul and Richards are back, watch out for the Flyers.

Well I guess Fletcher made his mark, Mr. Wheeler Dealer made a block buster, of a deal that should now give toronto that missing piece of the puzzle that ghey've been waiting for since 1967 we in edmonton could have given you more for Belak, we would have given you a half a pack of smokes and some Tim Horton's gift cetificates also, the Oilers won't make the playoffs either, but we have the most exiting young team in the NHL and we'll make another run at the cup in 3 years, hopefully you'll have better luck in the NFL than you do in the NHL

The leafs trading the pair to FLA seem nothing more than an attempt at gaining space and time for the younger players to play. I like the concept, but I think they've went about it the wrong way. Kilger and Belak were nothing more than support players, played their role and did it well. The problems created by JFJ were the wusses who demanded no movement clauses which even Houdini couldn't undo. Here is my take on it:

Sit the ones that you have no plans for. They don't want to make the right decision and move on...make it for them. Far too long players in the leafs organization have been allowed to rule. Get the decisions back into capable hands (now that someone competent is there.) Sit McCabe, Tucker, and Kubina for the remainder of the season. Put them on the shelf for every game. Bring up those youngsters and let them play to their hearts content.

Dwain

The Oilers young guys look god all over the place and yes, I agree that 2 to 3 years is probably a reasonable expectation for success. Roli does need to move though, even if they get peanuts in return. Garon has claimed the #1 spot and they have a capable backup in the minors. Roli deerves respect yes, but the cup run was 2 years ago and the team is vastly different now.

Fire Murray. The Sens are now poised to lose in the first round, lose Redden to UFA, there's no way Kelly signs this summer, they're left with 7 million in bad goaltending.

This organization is gutless from the top down. Eugene should fire he and Paddock and bring in a coach and GM interested in winning.
