What's your reaction to NHL trade deadline day?
Mon, February 25, 2008

Aside from a December deal that saw Anaheim move Andy McDonald to St. Louis for Doug Weight in a salary-cap related move, the four-player transaction between the Ottawa Senators and Carolina Hurricanes mercifully gave hockey fans a trade that actually had some serious news value.

The question is, will Monday's deal kickstart more moves between now and the Feb. 26 trade deadline? Have your say in our forum.

Will the NHL trade deadline be very busy?

I agree wholeheartedly that Pisani was their best player in game 7. He was the only who was awake the whole game, not just for the last half. Pisani has a wicked wrister and just needs to concentrate on shooting, he's not a playmaker. grebeshkov has made HUGE strides since Jan. and Cogliano,Gagne and Gilbert speak for themselves. (Gagne rookie of the month and Gilbert breaking Coffee's rookie d-man goal record.) The future is bright in Oil Country and in another year or two they will be a serious threat. So will the Kings if they ever get a defensive system to speak of. Camalleri, Kopitar, Frolov, Brown. Definitely two teams on the rise in the near future. I sure feel sorry for Leafs fans lol.

Wrong sport, Mel.

Now that Stewart is in left field making it a 3 man platoon why not trade Frank Thomas and use Stairs as DH.

Stairs can do more and hit from the left. Thomas wont "get his swing" till August then it's too late. They compare equally in stats.

Dwain, Yes and no with regard to Pisani. Two years ago when they lost in the finals to Carolina he was arguably their best forward.

To be honest I think the most improved on the team is Pisani. The last season that he played before getting sick I couldn't believe that he wasn't in the minors. Maybe having those few months where he didn't think he was ever going to play again woke him up a bit. It seems that he is now playing every game like its his last.

I can't believe JFJ even has the testicular fortitude to come on TV in Southern Ontario and try and sell us (viewers), on the fact that he knows the game.

Clearly there are better candidates out there that are more suited to being on TV. Hec, bring Domi back. Least he has an MP in his corner.

It's just tragic what JFJ did to this team. I can't blame Sundin for not wanting to fix JFJ's mess by moving. He shouldn't have been put in this position in the first place.

Norbit, Dwain, I don't disagree. I think Penner is worth the money, it's those draft picks and this year is a really good draft for the top ten. I was hoping they would get rid of Roloson to a team looking for a proven playoff performer. You're correct though, he won't garner much attention in the off season, third or fourth round choice. Perhaps as a package.

I agree Penner while he started out slow is alot better then he was at the start. In my mind we need him to just set up shop infront of the net. He is the biggest on the team and can throw his mass around or atleast he should.
Dwain, 2008-02-28 01:02:43

Until yesterday, I had some sympathy for JFJ... he was put in a bad spot after all (and who wants to work for Peddie?). but having heard about his "My decisions were excellent, Hal Gill is the best player in the NHL" routine, I can't believe I ever felt sorry for him. wow. The trade deadline itself is overrated, as are the deals that are made. Nobody watches the day long tv shows, and the whole process is just self serving garbage. Why does anyone at TSN or Sportsnet think we need to know what two of the worst GM's in NHL history (milbury/JFJ) think about the deals that might be made? Please. If hockey fans have so little in their life that they must watch an entire deadline show, they should volunteer at a foodbank or something. Stacking boxes would be more exciting than this garbage.

In history, the teams who sell veterans overwhelming outperform those who buy over the long term. I can understand a legitimate top 4 team overpaying for a player to improve their cup chances, but these bozos who torch their future for years to come just to rent a Tkachuk or Ryan Smyth for 6 weeks boggle my mind.

GM's that do that kind of deal shouldn't be running a convenience store, let alone a sports team.

i think fletcher made the best of a bad situation.

nobody knows what happened behind closed doors with the Sens, but it sure looks like they could have done more.
