Are the Sens better with Stillman and Commodore?
Mon, February 11, 2008

The Ottawa Senators have shaken things up.

Ottawa acquired forward Cory Stillman and defenceman Mike Commodore from the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday for forward Patrick Eaves and defenceman Joe Corvo.

The Senators lead the Eastern Conference and have made very few changes from the team that lost to Anaheim in last year's Stanley Cup.

Does this deal address problems in the Senators lineup? Are the Sens a better team following the four-player trade? Have your say in our forum.

Sens pull off a big deal

How does a thread about an Ottawa Senators trade turn into a discussion about McCabe and the Leafs? Doesn't that already have it's own thread? Enough about the Leafs already, their chances of the playoffs are slim at best. Other hockey teams do exist.

Despite their 5-1 loss to Buffalo, it will still be a goof trade for the Sens, especially come playoff time, where Stillman and Commodores grit will serve them better than the potential of Corvo and Eaves. Yes, they need a good anchor on the PP, but they are deep enough that it will be only a minor stumbling block.

ahhh Blue, you got it ass-backwards, it is the toronto Maple Leafs and their loyal leaf nation that is the laughing stock of the league.

when your team is ranked 28th in a 30 team league and rarely ices a credible team, you must learn to shaddup.

leaf nation is the subject of much mocking because of deluded fans like you.

Senator fans are well aware that we have not won the big one yet, but ya gotsto make the playoffs to have a shot at it.

And that's the bottomline, because Goober says so.

Blue in the valley - why do you bite?

Mcabe and Raycrofts biggest fan you cheer for the wrost players on the leafs. and how long has it even been sense Raycroft has started a game? and how long has it been sense Mcabe has scored a big power play goal like he's said to do, you must like the worst players instead of the best and trust me, I've never saw anyone like that before.

Couldn't agree more Paul and Joe - Paddock couldn't inspire a Cub pack. As I said earlier, I can foresee a situation where Murray will have to step back behind the bench to finish off this season. He also needs to make at least one more deal - maybe two - and Meszaros and Vermette should be part of whatever deals he makes.

Hey Goober, it's loathesome people like yourself that makes everyone else hate Sens fans. Your "most exciting line in hockey" and "making the playoffs every year" just doesn't cut it! You can start boasting AFTER your team wins a cup. Now you can throw in the typical response. One of the following....1967, or my all-time favourite, The Ottawa Senators (Silver Seven) have won 9 cups. Not the same franchise, but you like to accept the credit don't you...

leaf nation what a joke.. got one thing to say "1967"..nothing more to say...

Obviously not. Who makes these decisions for trades? I heard people at work say this was a good trade. how do you go from playing two decent teams annhilating one in a 6-1 victory and then getting trounced the other 5-1 the next. I think the sabres played very well last night, but Emery could have upped his game. I didn't see any improvement in his playing.

Hey Blue in the Valley...no seriously, Ottawa couldn't bash Toronto years ago...you had a team we didn't. you may have lost lots of games back in the 70's and 80's but you still had a team. there was no problem even when we did get a team in the early 90's. To me, what I hated about Toronto was people like Domi and Tucker. they instigated at every turn, didn't play fair, had a jerk of a coach (Pat Quinn) and whined whenever they could like babies yet they would play so physical they got away with things. They actually were playing like the Boston Bruins used to when they pushed there weight around. Well, i don't know about the rest of the Ottawa fans out there but i hate bullies. people who think they own the world. Glad to see the rules changed a few years ago and change how Toronto played their game (or how Toronto appeared to themselves how hockey was to be played). Luckily, true talent paid off the for the Sens and they are getting to where they wanted to go based on skill not dirty tactics. That in a nutshell is why we (or at leat I) hate Toronto...

Point taken people...it will all come down to the wire in the playoffs so no matter who you are routing for...appreciate real talent on the ice and not the whiners...

Until Murray faces his own worst hiring ever (Paddock) and makes a real statement about winning, this team goes nowhere. It's the same old story a great group of players and when everything goes there way there is no stopping them, but when they run up against a simple trap they panic. I'm for getting rid of Paddock
Paul Boal, 2008-02-13 10:24:11

I feel this is a good trade for both teams..short terms for the sens, long term for the canes.I'm still very concerned about Paddocks abilities as a coach. He doesn't seem able to motivate his team.To put the icing on the cake...neither Emery or Gerber will carry this team very far into the playoffs.
