Would you go see UFC in Canada?
Sat, February 9, 2008

The Ultimate Fighting Championship is expecting a record crowd for its first venture into Canada, with interim welterweight world champion Georges St. Pierre topping the bill on April 19 at the Bell Centre.

UFC president Dana White said more than 13,000 tickets were snapped up on the first day of pre-sales open only to members of UFC Fight Club, a fan club for the top mixed martial arts organization.

Are you happy that the UFC is finally coming to Canada? Or is it too violent and should be banned? Have your say in our forum.

Gordholio,

It's not a "sport" but a sport! Plus its way safer than boxing where they bet their brains scrambled what 3 times before a stoppage? Usually in MMA its only once and the fight is stopped. I haven't heard of a fighter gettin a concussion in MMA, But it happened in hockey not too long ago. Did you see the hockey game where whats his face had is neck sliced open from a skate?? CAN'T WAIT TO SEE ST. PIERRE BEAT SERRA!! GO GSP!!!

Like it or not the UFC is here to stay. As brutal as it may seem, it's actually a much safer sport than boxing, where participants receive repeated blows to the head from their opponents. Round after round. While I realize body shots make up for some of the blows, most are aimed directly at the head. It does'nt take a rocket scientist to figure why there are so many brain impaired ex boxers around. In the UFC a fighter has the option of tapping out when he's in trouble,or the referee will just put a halt to the fight if he thinks it's out of hand (they usually show good judgement)thus preventing serious injury.I've been impressed with the way the sport has evolved over the years. Well organized, well stuctured. Incredible athletes.

I don't watch this "sport", but I've seen some video clips of it and it doesn't interest me in the slightest.

People want blood in their video games, in their sports - sometimes in real life.

It seems they can't get enough of the violence and injury. It turns them on I guess.

I can't help but laugh when I hear that UFC is too violent for Canada. People get more seriously injured in Hockey games for god's sake! Who decided up until now that it was too violent? Some idiot politician who has never watched it? I hope UFC in Canada becomes a regular thing.

Its about time. Sounds kinda like the event sold out. Hopefully the UFC will see the huge fan base and hold more events here.

A bought time they came to Montreal. The pre-sale was a bit stupid though, I wasn't able to get a hold of any tickets!
Montreal UFC 83, 2008-02-06 12:22:09

HELL YEAH it's about time. MMA is too popular to ignore anymore.

I'm glad that the UFC is coming, tickets go on sale friday at noon and Im going to definitely buy one. Go GSP.
chuckc, 2008-02-05 09:28:30

Definitely happy, it is about time. Those who don't like UFC do not understand the martial arts.

its about time we've got some of the toughest guys in the world and will have some of the greatest fans on the planet
