Who should be the Sens' starting goalie?
Mon, March 24, 2008

After alternating goaltenders for the last nine games, Ottawa Senators coach John Paddock is changing things up in the net.

With an eye toward picking a clear-cut No. 1 after the next 10-15 games, Paddock is looking for either Martin Gerber or Ray Emery to show they're worthy of the job.

Crunch time is coming. Who is your pick to be the No. 1 goalie for the Senators? Or should they go with splitting the duties between the two? Have your say in our forum.

Looking out for No. 1

Ray Emery. And if you guys don't want him, we'll gladly take him off your hands. Gerber is an overachieving back-up

Patrick Roy.

Martin Gerber.

Right now I have more faith in Gerber. When Emery's in net I feel the same way I felt when Patrick Lalime was in Ottawa... you just never know if you're going to get Patrick Roy or Andre 'Red Light' Racicot. If I was Paddock I'd give the job to Gerber.

I truly believe the problem is between the pipes.Ottawa will never win the cup with those two goalies. They are both second string goalies who are making big bucks.Pretty sad when you lose your two top players and the team cant win a game.

As a Sens fan I'm used to seeing my team head into the playoffs with suspect goaltending and this year is no different. C'mon one of you start playing like you want it! How is it after all these years Ottawa has yet to have a true solid #1? The defense is playing like garbage and that's not helping any of them get into a groove. Sens need a big shakeup on D or we're going nowhere this year. And TO fans please keep you're idiotic "playoff choker" comments to yourself-Sens have been to the dance, you haven't in 40 years so buh bye.

John P. is handeling this totally wrong. The reason neither is hot is because as soon as they have an off night they are replaced the next game as if the coach has no confidence in them. I think both are no. 1 net minders but neither has gotten what they need to "get their game going" from the coach. Choose one, trade the other if you have to and go with it. My choice would be Emery, he has the playoff experience and has shown the ability to carry the Sens through a season. Gerber seems more like an on and off type of player and never has the consistancy to go the distance.

I like johnny's idea, good one. I guess I think Gerber. I've been wanting Emery traded for some time now. Get what you can for him, say, a draft pick. Just get rid of him. Trev: that, too, is a good question. What would be your answer?
Deryck, 2008-01-24 16:05:47

I would ask who has acted less like a #2 on the past 20 games?
Trev, 2008-01-24 15:31:06

It should be Brian Elliott, brought up from Bingo. He was outstanding in the one game he played in October. They should bring him up and demote Emery until he gets his attitude right. Neither Emery nor Gerber are playing consistently enough to deserve being in the net.
