Can anything stop the Patriots?
Sun, January 20, 2008

Despite a shaky Tom Brady, the New England Patriots were still too much for the banged-up San Diego Chargers in the AFC championship game Sunday, pulling out a 21-12 victory to head to the Super Bowl for the fourth time in seven seasons.

After 18 straight victories in a single season, can anything stop the Patriots now?

The only thing that can stop the Patriots is the Patriots.

If they play anywhere near their capability, they will win easily.

I don't think the Giants can upset the Pats. NY's kicker alone blew two glorious chances to win the game against GB, and the third time he connected on a 36 yard field goal (routine for most kickers). And that field goal was set up only because Favre threw one bad pass for an interception. That type of sloppy execution won't cut it against a team that sports the likes of Brady, Moss, Seau, etc.

The Pats are a good team. They may even be the best team ever, but that title shouldn't depend upon winning the last game. As Mach1 pointed out, not every team they beat is top calibre, but then not every team the Dolphins beat in '72 was up there with them either, so it's a moot point. Even the best can be beaten; that's why they make them play the games. I'll be rooting for the Giants, but if the Pats are able to win it,and complete a "perfect" season, the disappointment will stem from having to listen to the effluence that will gush from the New England sports media for months, not from having a franchise that is not among my favorites achieve "perfection." Love them, or hate them, they deserve the accolades they are getting.

If anyone can do it, the Giants can. After seeing the game in week 17, I'd say the Giants were the only team the Pats didn't want to face in the superbowl. This is because unlike the other teams in the NFL, the Giants proved that they are NOT in awe of the Pats. Other teams being in awe of the Patriots has been one of the Pats' most potent weapons.

Look who they played... Dallas, Indi, San Diego (twice), NY Giants, Jacksonville - hmmm - let's see - 5 of the 8 teams in the last 2 weeks of the playoffs (not including themselves it would be 5 ot 7) - not too bad. No other team can claim that. Here is to 19-0 and history - Go Pats!

They just hit their Waterloo...Giants will upset...I hope its a good game...too many superbowls are super-duds...

They are not that good. Look who they have played. Miami twice, the Jets twice, the Browns and the Bengals. What a real tough season.
