Can anything stop the Patriots?
Sun, January 20, 2008

Despite a shaky Tom Brady, the New England Patriots were still too much for the banged-up San Diego Chargers in the AFC championship game Sunday, pulling out a 21-12 victory to head to the Super Bowl for the fourth time in seven seasons.

After 18 straight victories in a single season, can anything stop the Patriots now?

Hey gordholio, guess ya can't get anymore cliche than that. Anyway I think it will be a close game. Patriots by three.

Norbit, thanks for the apology. I did read your comment. You said "most teams in the NFL do the same thing that the Pats did". My point is if every team or most of them as you state cheat, more than the Pats would have been caught!
Pete, 2008-01-31 10:21:25

Pete

I wasn't in your face, I was merely making a point. The Steel Curtain was great, but they lost games. The Bears were great for only one season. The Pats have been winning since the turn of the century and any seasons they haven't won the Super Bowl they have still been very competitive and in the playoffs. Considering that it's '08, thats pretty amazing in the era of free agency, and you can't say they are beatable because they almost got beat. You could only say that if they had actually lost. Oh yeah, no other teams got caught cheating. Did you even read my comment?
Norbit, 2008-01-30 21:20:30

Norbit, first of all don't be all up in my face like that American idiot Jimmy. I said they are beatable becuase they nearly lost several games. My point is that they did not blow anyone away like the Steelers of the Seventies or the Bears of the eighties or many of the great 49er teams. My point is that all the stars are lined up perfect for them this year, yes they got a little lucky and yes they are undefeated this year. Oh I hope they lose on Sunday. From the outset this year things have been watered down or as many would call it parody and anyone could have won with a good run. Oh yeah, what other teams were caught cheating?
Pete, 2008-01-30 14:42:21

Yes. The Giants can, but they won't.
Vince, 2008-01-30 10:02:22

Pete, most teams in the NFL do the same thing that the Pats did, the only difference is that the Pats got caught. That aside, if they go unbeaten and take the Super Bowl, they will be the best in the modern era no question, unless you plan to ignore the other THREE Super Bowls they won, and Brady breaking Mannings TD record, and Moss breaking Jerry Rice's TD record. Yes, there have been a few close ones, but they still won them, and in the end that's all that matters. If you recall just to get to the Super Bowl, asides from the less quality teams they played, they beat the Cowboys, Colts and Steelers just to name a few. The Giants are a cute story, but they better be ready cause the Pats know how to win the big one, and this years edition is the strongest yet. Best in the modern era? No, they will likely go down as the best ever. oh and Pete, if they're beatable then why haven't they lost yet? Just curious...
Norbit, 2008-01-25 16:58:19

The only thing that can stop the Pats is a frozen field with no staples in their shoes...
jimf, 2008-01-23 16:29:53

It is unfortunate that it was a healthy San Diego team last weekend. Because the Partiots are beatable and in my opinion they don't seem to be a team that will be known as one of the best in the modern era. Now, do you put an asteric beside the record given the cheating scandal and all?
Pete, 2008-01-22 12:08:21

They are perfect against playoff teams, and average an insane 38 ppg against them. Like them or not, 18-0 or not, the Pats know how to get it done in the big one. The Giants are a nice story but reality is about to kick them in the groin. Pats will win, cover the spread and then some. Im not even a Pats fan, quite frankly, I despise Tom Brady, but he's been there and done that. Eli Manning has been playing ball control to get this far, and that won't beat the Pats. Nothing the Giants have will.
Norbit, 2008-01-21 18:27:24

The Pats will win the Superbowl, but not by the absurd spread that is out right now. They have been pass heavy all year but when they needed it started running the ball down their opponent's throats. Nobody else in the NFL has such a complete balance in throwing long / medium / short and a running game to boot. Add in a defence that keeps the opponents out of the end zone and the game is almost a "guarentee".. The only question in my mind is who will be the MVP: Brady, Moss, Maroney or will a defender step forward ...
