Should Simon be banned?
Wed, December 19, 2007

Chris Simon has received the longest suspension in NHL history - again.

The New York Islanders forward was banned 30 games by league disciplinarian Colin Campbell after Simon stepped on Pittsburgh's Jarkko Ruutu during a game over the weekend.

What do you think should happen to him? Have your say in our forum.

Why is there a place for Chris Simon in organized hockey? He will be back by late March and will injure someone else because he does not have the mentality for the game. It's time for the NHL to show some leadership and expel him and anyone else like him.

he needs a doctor, something is wrong with him, he should be out of the NHL, not a team player and needs anger management--he is way passed "goon" material!!!

Is that all? Any one who has played the game knows what a skate blade can do. What was he trying to do sever Ruutu's achilles tendon? Now the "apology" golly gee whillackers fellers, I just kinda lost my head there for a minute. How many times does it take before he gets kicked out of the leg???? Anger management? I think so. Lashing out childishly like that deserves more than just a suspension. Expulsion is the only answer.

Until the owners are fined heavily (look at F1 racing) this nonsense won't stop.

Simon should have a lifetime suspension and the team fined $1 million. Anything less is a joke.

Seemingly the last few years there has been an increase in acts of stupidity. These guys should never play in the NHL again. With the $$$'s these guys earn, why do they not have to take real responsibilty for their actions

I think Simon should sit out the balance of this year plus playoffs and be put on probation if he returns next season. Its about time the league got rid of these types of players.

It might be time to tell Chris that he just never had the maturity to play at the NHL level of the game...talent yes.

The NHL has the power to do more, 30 is not enough. A suspension till the end of the season is more appropriate, I wouldn’t want my child to watch adults hurting each other on purpose, after all this is sports not a fighting game.

The suspension is well deserved, BUT, since he has chose to walk away from the team for awhile to receive counselling or whatever, the suspension should NOT begin until he returns to the team! To make him serve it now when he's not even there would make no sense at all and I hope the league realizes that.

This guy has consistently had premeditated attacks agst unsuspecting opponents, then apologises..enough..through him out for life..playing is a privilege, he has no respect for the well being of other players
