Should Simon be banned?
Wed, December 19, 2007

Chris Simon has received the longest suspension in NHL history - again.

The New York Islanders forward was banned 30 games by league disciplinarian Colin Campbell after Simon stepped on Pittsburgh's Jarkko Ruutu during a game over the weekend.

What do you think should happen to him? Have your say in our forum.

Simon banned for 30 games

I am the president of a Minor Hockey League, when I see this I ask my self why does the league allow players that do these things to remain in the league. What kind of example are they setting for the younger players?

They have to stand up and correct this NOW.

he should be kicked out of the league

Simon has had a very tainted career, from juniors on up. Unfortunately no one took the time to help the person, but were content to look the other way to satify their own needs for his talents (?)

To say he is the first and only one to "step/stomp" on someone with their skates..is pure baloney.

None other than the great Bobby Orr while a junior did it in the old IcePalace

in London against the Knights..

so please give me a break.Of course, Bobby Orr's talent was miles above Simon's and I am sure he was told to straigten his act..

Gordie Howe had the most educated elbows in the NHL that dented a few heads before any ruling against head shots..but again..who can compare the talent..

So,depending on how great a super star will determine what you get..

It has to do with money..

If your stars are not playing you do not have the gate proceeds..

And don't let them tell you this is sport it is business!!!

The NHLPA has to step in and start protecting their players from this kind of attack.

I have yet to hear anything about how they are protecting the players from getting clubbed, stabbed and run from behind.

Guys like this need to be removed permanently from the game. There is absolutely no respect for your opponent anymore and it starts at a very young age because they want to emulate their heroes. I played hockey my whole life, right up to Junior and I never remember needing stop signs on the back of jerseys so as not to hit from behind...you just KNEW not to do that. Deliberate attempts to injure should be met with minimum 50 game suspensions otherwise it will not be long until someone is killed. Bad enough that Steve Moore lost his career because of Todd Bertuzzi's garbage back-stabbing attack, but what kind of credibility issues will the league be faced with if someone dies at the hands of an opponent???

In the private sector when some one gets hurt the company is held to blame. In sports the employee is and the company is left to make millions off the ticket sales and publicity. Do you think they really want this kind of stuff to stop.

Simon and other players who behave like him should be banned for life.Game suspensions are not working, why is the delay in taking such a step? Are we waiting for a player to die or be permantly maimed.Get with it.

The league needs to review their policy on suspendable offences and figure out when it is time to impose a lifetime ban. Simon shouldn't be allowed to play hockey again. He obviously can not use good judgement on the ice and sooner or later he is going to seriously injure somebody.

Are you people insane? This idiot has had ample opportunity to change his ways. He is a vicious, simplistic, excuse for a hockey player..in any league, let alone the highest symbol of hockey supremecy. Every kid in the hockey world dreams that one day to wear the jersey of an NHL team. Sadly, you haave now told these kids that you no longer need to be a hard working, dedicated , player. You need only be like Chris Simon. Shame on you.

This is over exaggeration, asuspension should be only a couple of games if at all. Ruutu is known instigator. Only reason is league is racist against First Nations.
