Does Ramage deserve a prison sentence?
Thu, January 17, 2008

Former NHL player Rob Ramage was called an "exemplary citizen" Thursday, but an Ontario judge said he had to send a message of deterrence against drunk driving as he sent him to prison for four years for a crash that killed his friend, a former Chicago Blackhawks player.

Do you think Ramage got what he deserved? Have your say in our forum.

Ramage sentenced to four years

In his playing days, Ramage asked for no quarter and gave none. Accept your responsibility and pay the price. This case cries for the maximum jail time.

Jail time of course. Otherwise, what kind of message are you trying to send .... okay to drink and drive and if you kill somebody, s/he better be someone you know? Stupid and silly at best!!!

I find it very sad that the family of Mr. Magnuson want's no jail time and for Mr. Ramage to speak about drinking & driving yet along through his trial (and likely appeal) he has plead not guity to impaired driving. He needs prison time & deportation back here to Canada. When will drunks ever learn?

A crime is a crime. Look up the punishments by law. Just because you are an athlete and have money doesn't mean you are above the law.

Your Damn right he should go to jail but with all the bleeding heart JUDGES out there he will probably see no time at all and that would be the real crime here!!!

Yes laws are for everyone, but it seems to me (and history has proven this) that sentences vary depending on who commits the crime. This not only holds true in Canada but also in the US of A. Money speaks and those that have it can hire the best defense. I agree that Mr. Ramage should be held accountable for his poor judgment and he should receive and serve in full the appropriate sentence. The wishes of the victim’s family should not even be in the equation. But mark my words, he will get less than a year if he gets any time at all. That’s just the way it goes for the rich and famous.

Why is the option mutually exclusive. Throw his ass in jail just like mine or yours would be without question, and then have him do the community service as part of parol condition. Sick and tired of special deals for the already privileged "special" people. Dont drop the soap criminal!!

Throwing him in jail is not going to solve the social problem of drinking and driving. He should be talking to people in high schools and colleges and universities of the dangers and death of a friend that drinking and driving has caused. He should talk to people about drinking and driving everyday for the rest of his life.

I think it would be more constructive to have Rob do the full four years , 7 days a week doing speaking engagements about the wrongs of drinking and driving across the US and Canada with all expenses paid by him and if he defaults even once he should be given the full four years with no chance of parole if he truly is sorry

You should not go to jail in this country unless you are a danger to society. Ask your self is Ramage a danger to any one ? Im sure he feels terrible about what happened to his friend already and the family supports him !!
