Does Ramage deserve a prison sentence?
Thu, January 17, 2008

Former NHL player Rob Ramage was called an "exemplary citizen" Thursday, but an Ontario judge said he had to send a message of deterrence against drunk driving as he sent him to prison for four years for a crash that killed his friend, a former Chicago Blackhawks player.

Do you think Ramage got what he deserved? Have your say in our forum.

Ramage sentenced to four years

My father was killed by a drunk driver 27 yrs ago, not once have I ever heard my mother or anyone else for that matter in my family or circle of friends call it murder. Easy to sit on your side and decide he's a murderer when you know nothing of the man. I don't put him in the same bracket as paul bernardo.

The sentence should have been much stiffer, he should have to rejoin and play for the present day leafs for 4 years

so..4 years...is this making an example of someone ? how many sentences have you seen in the news where a guy gets 4 years only after 5 convictions? if that.

It's the right sentence but the wrong message.

I suppose 4 years is fair. Ramage is a good guy but he made a big mistake and should pay a price.

I think he was lucky to get only 4 years prison. The fact he is appealing the sentence underlines what a gutless coward he is. He did the crime, now it's time to "man up" and do the time ...

Drinking and Driving, you pay the result when you Murder someone, regardless who you are! You deserve your sentence, lucky only to get 4 years, your friend got a "Life Sentence"!

What every one seems to be forgetting is that there is a third party involved in this.

Michelle Pacheco, the innocent driver that Ramage slammed into head on. Thankfully she was not killed but she did suffer greatly.

The Magnusens can forgive all they want (remember they did sue Ramage and won $9.5 million) but Michelle has suffered too and she deserves justice too.

4 years pluse a 5 year ban from driving after his releace is a moderate sentence as far as I am concerned. The judge made an example of Ramage but could have been firmer.

Maybe now Michelle can sleep better knowing Ramage won't hurt any one else with his drinking and driving for the next 9 years.

If that would have happened to a simple/regular guy like me ,they would throw me in jail so far and deep that they would have to feed me with a howitzer....what makes him so special?????

right on brian well said..

I think the sentencing was fair. I have nothing against Rammage who I'm sure is a fine human being but he has to pay his dues to society and 4 years is a longtime for anyone to be in prison. I applaud the judge in this case for not being swayed by other factors leading toward leniency. Everyone has to be treated the same no matter what their "percieved"celebrity status might be.
