Does Ramage deserve a prison sentence?
Thu, January 17, 2008

Former NHL player Rob Ramage was called an "exemplary citizen" Thursday, but an Ontario judge said he had to send a message of deterrence against drunk driving as he sent him to prison for four years for a crash that killed his friend, a former Chicago Blackhawks player.

Do you think Ramage got what he deserved? Have your say in our forum.

This driver killed someone while drunk. His 4 year sentence is actually about 2 1/2 years. Is this also too much for the justice system to sentence Ramage.

Ramage should be ashamed of himself , and his lawyer saying that it is "excessive punishment."

The last time I checked getting less than 15 years for killing someone was "getting off with murder."

Should have been alot longer of a sentence! One dead, others injured. He was like 3 times over the legal limit. Give me a break. Could have easily started sending messages with this case! We need to take a serious look at our Judges! So many bad decisions by these panty waste judges. 4 years for Ramage for killing someone and injury another, 2 years for the idiot in St Thomas abusing his daughter! Give me a break.

Start putting these people away for LONG periods of time. Parol should be abolished in my opinion. Do the Crime, Do the Time! ALL OF IT!

William

didn't sound like you followed it too well. Ramage just tried to prove he wasn't. He did a number of different sobriety tests and failed all. He was at a party that every one was drinking but said he wasn't. He has drunk before but not this time. Ya you beleive what you want, I'm glad that he wasn't beleived.

Four years seems like a just sentence, provided he serves every second of it. I'm now hearing that the decision is being appealed?

Just how sorry is this guy?

Magnuson's family might have forgiven him, after collecting million, but what about the lady he hit and injured. Does she get to sue or is she not entitled to compensation because she lives. Live in pain probably for the rest of her life.

How many times did Ramage drink and drive before this??? Finally he got caught in a big way. Figures it's like the hockey rink sit out 2 minutes and back in the game. Not this time bud! Pay the price the rest of us work a day people sure would!!!

Besides can't a million dollar hockey player afford cab fair. He was at a party he knew he would be drinking and made no arrangements so that he didn't have to drive.

I think this judge should come to Winnipeg and sentence that cop that killed that lady a few years back and make an example of him instead of Ramage.Rammage denies he was drunk and why won't they believe him but this cop got away with everything. What injustice Canada has!

You folks all are assuming that in fact he was impaired. If you had followed the trial, you would know that there is a lot of doubt caused by sloppy police handling of the case and exhibits. Ever think that perhaps he wasn't impaired as he maintains? Read the facts and stop believing that it's impossible that the cops screwed up. It happens daily. Thank God we have an appeal process.

Actually, the average Joes of this country do often drink and drive and kill people and get off scott free. So, I wouldn't say that Ramage got any preferential treatment. There should be a minimum of 10 years in jail and a lifetime driving ban for cases like this, but nobody has the guts to hand them out. This way, nobody could be accused of getting special treatment.
