Does Ramage deserve a prison sentence?
Thu, January 17, 2008

Former NHL player Rob Ramage was called an "exemplary citizen" Thursday, but an Ontario judge said he had to send a message of deterrence against drunk driving as he sent him to prison for four years for a crash that killed his friend, a former Chicago Blackhawks player.

Do you think Ramage got what he deserved? Have your say in our forum.

Technicalities?or the law Wayne. If the cops break the Law and commit an illegal search ,the question is who's to say the cops didn't taint the evidence. He should be treated like any first time offender. As for Magnusson,he knew what he was getting into and wouldn't want his buddy to do the time .Ramage should only be responsible for the other victim if he is found guilty on his appeal.

So mike. You feel Rammage didn't deserve very much because of legal technicalities? Interesting. So Magnusson's real deeds of getting drunk, killing one person and hurting another in a head on are just technicalities too. And people wonder why guys like OF get off .

Keith Magnusson got into the car with Ramage and must live with that decision or in his case die with it. Sentence was way to harsh by a Judge that let urine samples into evidence that were illegally taken without a search warrant.

There will be an appeal and Ramage's sentence could be cut down a year or two in my opinion.

For those calling this murder - it's not.

Murder is something different.

If Rob Ramage had really been sorry he would have pleaded guilty. Instead he is paying a high priced lawyer , to try and get him off on a technicality.

I am reminded of when a young Craig Mactavish killed a girl in a similar situation. Mactavish pleaded quilty immediately and spent at least a year in jail. Unfortunately Rob Ramage is no Craig Mactavish.

How about using this as a sample case such as, how about if he appeals and loses he gets 8 years? Why should someone be allowed to cost the public tons of money on an appeal without them taking some risk?

Even if he was sobber, does that allow him to recklessly kill someone and injure another without paying a penalty?

My concern is that in Canada we seem to not really vote for governments that belive in punishment for serious young offender crimes, violent crimes, white coller crimes such as Conrad Black

Any regular Joe Blow, there would be no question of the sentence. Good guy? Good player? Who cares?? He was drunk , dangerous, a killer... Call it like it is.

Just another case of no justice for the lesser lites .MONEY TALKS HERE.

Yes Mr Ramage deserves a prison sentence he should be convicted the same as any other person we dont have to sets of laws in this country or do we

Unbelievable that he's painted as a "model citizen"-last time I checked model citizens didn't get drunk out of their minds and bomb around in their vehicles killing people. Just because he played hockey and has high powered friends doesn't mean he gets to endanger the lives of innocent people-Kudos to the judge- good sentence!
