Does Ramage deserve a prison sentence?
Thu, January 17, 2008

Former NHL player Rob Ramage was called an "exemplary citizen" Thursday, but an Ontario judge said he had to send a message of deterrence against drunk driving as he sent him to prison for four years for a crash that killed his friend, a former Chicago Blackhawks player.

Do you think Ramage got what he deserved? Have your say in our forum.

Ramage sentenced to four years

Mike you seem to have a pretty negative attitude towards cops, like they get kicks out of sending innocent people to jail becasue they will gain..... nothing.

But lets lok at some of the tools the drunks and there high priced lawyers use to get people off even thought they are guilty as sin.

1) carry liquor in your car, if you get in an accident drunk, drink a lot of the booze after the accident in front of witnesses. Then claim you got drunk after. The fine for drinking in public is very small and you can say you needed it to calm nerves.

2) if that fails refuse the test and say you need to contact your lawyer before which is your right then talk to your lawyer for 8 hours till you sober up (there is no limit to the length of the call but you must remain conversing)

There are many more the lawyers will tell you and they get a lot of true fellons off. I'm sure this scenario far outways any rogue cops just putting innocent people away (like there are any)

Well mike you can beleive what you want about your hero but I don't beleive any of his defence.

I don't beleive that officers did his breathalizer wrong, I don't beleive that the hospital or the cops falsified any blood samples or obtained them illegally or under false pretences.

He claims that the smell of alcohol that the officers used as probable cause came from the beer that broke in the car (beer in the car of a guy who doesn't drink) therefore they had no right to proceed farther. So his version is he was just a terrible driver that crossed over into the other lane for no reason and hit another car head on. All other evidence was falsified by many hospital and police staff and allowed to happen under a corrupt judge. OR maybe he actually did drink too much as convicted.

We have a sign at work that says every day 4 canadians are killed by drunk drivers. Is this lies by the cops just to put innocent people in Jail?

We are all under the same laws. The fact of the matter Wayne , if the police garner evidence illegally they should be charged--If the police acted illegally it throws into question what evidence these illegally motivated policeman had.It questions their integrity and if they were willing to break the law in this matter why should you believe them that his blood samples were not tainted.
Mike, 2008-01-23 15:12:33

Isn't it interesting how we have laws for those with money and celeberty and yet another for those without those resources. Do any of you recall OJ.
Pete, 2008-01-23 12:25:36

Another question. If the police break the law, why should the criminal get off. shouldn't the criminal be convicted of his actual act and the police charged for there illegal act? Why do the criminals get set free. Two wrongs make everything all right?

Mike

all these infractions are alleged by his lawyer. Its funny how when someone breaks the law how a high priced lawyer will point out all the flaws that occur on every offence. Ramage was drunk. all signs and tests point to it and so do the dead freind and hurt person in the other car. The first trial saw through the crap but now its about technicalities, not about actual actions. The police didn't do a terrible job, his lawyer has portayed that to the media and now accused the judge of the same. Lap it up, ramage is still scum and even more so for the lenghts he will go to get out of it.
wayne, 2008-01-22 13:28:46

As a free society Wayne I'm sure I don't have to stress the importance of the rule of law. If Ramage broke the law and is responsible for breaking the law then the Police who has to enforce the law are also under the same rules that we are. When the Police break the law to enforce the laws on us it becomes a contradiction and more like Fascism. What's amazing about this case is how badly the police mishandled a routine accident that they have seen a thousand times before.
Mike, 2008-01-22 13:14:32

Quite the logic though mike.

Ramage isn't responsible because his drunk freind shouldn't have got in the car with another drunk. He is also not responsible because the police didn't follow the rules properly, nor did the judge. So everything is al right then.

Unfortunatley your not alone in your thinking and people die from drunk drivers daily, but its not the drunks fault though.
wayne, 2008-01-22 11:45:50

Well mike

He claims his rights were violated. Doesn't mean they were.

He found fault with his breathalizer, the blood test, the sobriety test, the hospital, the cops. Funny he doesn't find any fault in his own actions that killed his freind and hurt the other driver. Nice to see were you favour is at fault here.
