Are MLB players telling the truth?
Wed, February 13, 2008

Brian McNamee said he injected Roger Clemens with performance-enhancing drugs more often than he previously claimed, starting their high-stakes testimony before U.S. Congress on Wednesday with new attacks on the credibility of the seven-time Cy Young Award winner.

"I have helped taint our national pastime," McNamee, the pitcher's former personal trainer, said in his prepared statement, released before the start of the highly anticipated hearing.

Clemens has denied the accusations that became public in December's Mitchell Report.

Do you believe Clemens and other players when they say they did not inject themselves with performance-enhancing drugs? Have your say in our forum.

Yes of course I believe them! Why wouldn't I? I also believe that the moon is made of green cheese, and that politicians never tell lies. Hold it! There's more, the cow jumped over the moon!

Rick W.

I am unsure of your referance with lots of alcohol. Do you mean to say that it gives them better balance, see things clearly, and make them stronger? or are you just making fun of the donehead politictions?
Dwain, 2008-02-14 02:05:33

Yes of course I believe them. I also believe OJ didn't do it, the world is flat and the Easter Bunny is real.
Norbit, 2008-02-13 20:50:44

Today's hearing was clearly was disguised, oops... as a fact finding truth of basball's unauthorize drug useage by it's players. politicians are truely a joke!! Repubilicans bent over backwards to show their desire to protect a cheater.....Roger Clemems is a doper point blank. Admit it and move on, we are not fooled by your lies.

Who cares what they do to themselves? Fans pressure them to perform better and better. They do what they have to do. I think if they tested all athletes we would surprised by the results. I believe enhancing drug use is far more widely used they most people think.

This is just a witch hunt for some feeble administrator to feel important or score political points at the expense of others. These guys are where they are because they were exceptional athletes and some of them relied upon drugs or whatever to get them where they were. The all have legacies to protect and some have chosen to do this by lying about taking a substance that was not illegal.

So why the big fuss? These guys never got to where they are by their honesty, not to say they all aren't, but the majority of honest people never make the big leagues. So why do we have to hold them to a higher standard than ourselves? They are just people, people with more to lose than you or I.

With the way the masses are being stirred, it's like Salem MA or MacCarthyism all over again. Funny how we think we're so enlightened and then centuries later we do the same old, same old.

I actually feel in a small way bad for Bonds and his ilk. They guy could add another 100 homers to his record if not for the last few years and the fact that most likely, no team will touch him again. Some will put an asterik beside his name and then in 20 years or so, somebody might beat his record. How different is anything he has done different from the Babe who probably relied on many performance enhancers (lots of alcohol for instance) and back then, nobody cared. In the future when chewing tobacco is declared a performance enhancer, will they exhume all the bodies of current record holders and look for signs of lip cancer?

Let Bonds and the Rocket play their games as long as they can. Test them for drugs that are illegal now and if you catch them, throw them out. But stop this public humiliation of star players just so some commissioner or senator gets his 15 minutes of fame beating on somebodies hero. People should pay more attention to wars fought in their name for oil than how the Rocket gets his edge in a game for gosh sake.

It's just entertainment, guys. The pros are paid fantastic salaries to give the unwashed masses (that's us) something watch on TV.

Let the players drug themselves if they wish.

Gordholio

Baseball is the only sport in the US that has laws in congress on it. It truly is the national sport. Thats why.
wayne, 2008-02-08 14:06:43

I don't understand why the US Government is even involved in all of this steroids investigation in baseball.

Congressional hearings?

Why doesn't baseball govern itself?
gordholio, 2008-02-08 02:32:13

No I don't believe Clemens at all. Especially after that phone conversation. He really should come clean while there is still time. Otherwise he runs the risk of having this thing snowball to the point of no return a la Pete Rose. Liar liar, pants on fire. Guy from Ottawa
