Should Sundin seek a trade?
Sun, December 2, 2007

While he's been the face of the Maple Leafs for 13 seasons, Mats Sundin is running out of time to win a Stanley Cup.

I don't think most people can READ properly. The question IS NOT "Should Sundin be traded". The question is "Should Sundin SEEK a trade". He has stated matter of factly that he doesn't WANT to go anywhere. Obviously he's loyal. Never ditch a loyal player.

Mats should leave. The Leafs are a sinking ship and he will never win a cup in Toronto. He should go to Detroit and win a cup with all his Sweedish brothers. He can come back and retire with the leafs later.

If we are out of the picture in the spring, trade him at the deadline and stock up on young talent. We all know that JFJ has traded everything away except the ice at the ACC. He would do well in Detroit and we could sign him back in the summer so he can retire in a couple of years as a leaf. It would make sense because all of our draft picks are gone. Thanks again Fergie!

Jimmy said it - trade him but wait until the deadline. As I've said before, Mats is the real deal but a whole year with not much help will wear him down again - like last year down the stretch. Get some good draft picks and/or a young player or two and really start to re-build, like JFJ said he would do when he was hired. Of course, to take this type of strategic no nonsense approach to re-buliding, JFJ would have to go first because we have all seen that he is all talk and will not pull the triggger on really re-buliding for 3 - 4 years down the road.

If they are going to trade Mats, do it near the trading deadline when they would get much more in return.

Mats is one of the great players in the NHL in the past 15 years.

Of course the Maple Leafs will not trade away their veterans at the deadline to really rebuild. They will just stick with mediocrity for the next 5 years at least.

That's the way they do things now in Toronto.

kool! 3 wins in a row, 7/8 points last 4, Toskala playing great(trade for him and Bell not looking so bad now for JFJ).

HMMMMM hens only 7pts ahead habnots 2 pts.

GO LEAFS GO!

Trade Sundin? Why he is going in the hall of fame first attempt! One of the best leafs since I have been watching since late 60's!

Not a real hockey player? He won't play well all year? What are you talking about? Trading him would be like trading a Joe Thorton. He's a skilled, quality player that makes a difference for the Leafs and would be an high impact player on any other team. If he was on the market, GM's will be biting.

3 wins and counting! It was but a week ago and everyone wanted to fire the GM and coach and trade the entire team for a bag of pucks and pizza. Now we're talking playoffs and planning the parade.

Should Sundin be traded? Absolutely not. He wants to win a Stanley Cup and he knows that this is the team that can do it. With his leadership, nothing is impossible for this team.
Alfie, 2007-12-05 09:03:22

why should they tade him? he's playing well, the team is doing Ok at the moment, there is no reason for a trade. is he not a real hockey player? gimme a break... show me anybody who's better. all you Hens fans should wory about your own crappy team and think about the trade Murray has to make. :-)
Peter, 2007-12-05 07:34:56

cya Mats! Loyalty doesn't trump 40 years of futility. Make the trade!
