Should the Leafs get rid of Ferguson?
Sun, November 18, 2007

NHL executives have been playing their own game of gossip -- some of it more than gossip -- wondering amongst themselves who will be the next general manager and next coach of the Leafs.

Here it is 3 weeks later since this thread opened up. JFJr is still around and all the screaming for his head has stopped. Why? Blue and White have gained 11 out of 14 possible points. That is still no excuse for the ineptitude shown by management in drafting/trading/developing players. There still needs to be a major explosion up top. If you want to run a SUCCESSFUL hockey operation you need hockey people.

Just because you are the son of a hockey great, were once an assistant GM with St Louis, played in the AHL, doesn't mean you have the resume to be GM of a bona fide hockey team in the NHL.

Peddie needs to go back to managing his condos and Tanenbaum and the rest of the board of directors of MLSE need to step back and re-evaluate whether or not they want to make some REAL money by having a winning team, or risk losing fans by constantly failing to listen to the very people that make this team financially viable.

Leafs fans have suffered long enough. Give us a contender!

Laffs vs. Bruins - Laffs outcoached, outgoalied amd out GM'd. No name Bruin players make the Laffs multimillionaires look very ordinary. Bruins 3rd string goalie beats Vesa who is a second stringer all the way. Laff coaches clearly baffled by Bruins strategy of clogging the neutral zone. JFJ's multimillionaires beaten by guys who have yet to taste the big money. Boring hockey game. JFJ has about another month at the helm before he is sent back to his AHL roots.

OK hindsight is 20/20, but when I first heard they hired JFJ years back, I was totally confused. This is a major hockey market that deserves a GM with major experience and a proven track record. I had to check out his bio to figure out who this guy is and what his major accomplishments where, other than being related to JF Sr. may he rest in peace).

Ok bottom line is this guy played in the AHL and was later GM of the Worcester IceCats!? He played some role in the St Louis organization and St Louis had some success in the early nineties, but correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't St Louis in the basement when JFJ was around?

Wow, I'm impressed that's quite a resume.

This really shows how dysfunctional the upper management is at the leafs organization. This resume may have impressed the likes of Peddie, (who knows even less about running a hockey team anyway). Who in their right mind would have hired this guy to begin with? JFJ has given this CITY exactly what he knows best: an AHL quality team ...not one competitive at the NHL level.

JFJ didn't stand a chance from the beginning and the only reason he was around for this long is because the leafs had acquired some quality players long before JFJ was around.

The good news in all this, is that the leafs don't have much further to fall because they're already in the basement, but it is time to stop the bleeding and make sure this teams doesnt go any further by digging their own graves.

MLSE should spare all the leaf fans and just clean house at the top. JFJ included.

Ferguson isn't the problem-its

the owners. The owners are not committed to putting a winning

team on the ice,the leafs will

never win the Stanley with the current ownership in place.

Wow! Just read the articles on Richard Peddie and Tanenbaum. Why do the fans keep going to watch this travesty? They all need to go JFJ, Peddie and Tannenbaum. Peddie seems to be a real force for mismanagement. JFJ MIGHT have been a mistake! You think?

Yet nobody could have predicted how bad Vesa, Jason and Bell would play for the Laffs. Is it the coach's fault? Could be since the Laffs are really disorganized out there. Yet not all is Mo's fault eg. McCabe is not a stud defensemen, only a power play specialist and he is being forced into a role he is incapable of filling. How would one go about coaching Devereau, Pohl and Belak when they just don't have the talent to deliver? So little depth on this team. 2nd line centre Kyle is ranked 270 by the NHL. No impact players aside from Sundin. And Peddie thinks JFJ might be a mistake. Wow!

It's time to fire JFJ!!! I don't need to hear any excuses!

Hopefully, TML takes an action to clean up asap.

Why get rid of him now???? We are sooooo close to winning the John Tavares lottery. But wait the "scouts" JFJr has hired wouldn't recognise Tavares' talent and they would pick Tyler Hostetter instead...he fits in with the D-corps at -18 or Luke Gazdic with 8 pts and -19 after Erie's 25 games a nice pick-up for a top 6 forward. AND JFJ could pay them $4 or 5 million right away so nobody else would take them away!!!!!! My apologies to Hostetter and Gazdic for associating their names with the Leafs.

Put JFJ under house arrest until he is fired. No decision more major than whether or not to send "Army" out for coffee.
Ron, 2007-11-26 06:47:06

Ferguson has to be hel accountable for this team. Mississing the play offs again for a third season.

This is a no brainer

Stop going to games! If the seats are filled no changes will be made. I'm a leaf fan for 22yrs. Can't believe what I'm seeing.
