Would Avery be a good fit for the Rangers?
Sat, February 7, 2009

BRUCE GARRIOCH, SUN MEDIA

Sean Avery's road back to the NHL has officially started.

The suspended Dallas Stars winger was placed on waivers today, which means he's ready to play after undergoing counselling, following comments he made earlier this season in Calgary.

If nobody claims him he will clear Monday at noon. The belief is the New York Rangers have discussed the possiblity of bringing in Avery at half-price. He still has three-years, $12 million remaining on his contract.

Would Avery be a good fit with the Rangers? Have your say in our forum.

Let me get this right. As far as discipline in the NHL is concerned. You can drink and drive, kill your linemate in an accident and not be suspended, come back and play in the NHL as if nothing has happened, even get cheered by your hometown crowd when you firt come back.

But you are not allowed to say an off handed comment about an ex girlfriend who is slepping around the league.

What a joke!!! No wonder the world is turning OFF the NHL in masses.

He had a major brain fart on this one.Dallas will likely try to trade him now.How about trading him to the Leafs for Blake...hmmm

Avery acts like he's a stupid bad guy character in the "WWE" not the "NHL".

Gerry, how can you honestly say the NHL is about professionalism and class? The NHL stands for the National Hockey League, it's not the ballet or theatre. Besides, just look at commissioner of the league - all things he is not. Care to rephrase what the NHL is now?

Sig, ever hear of freedom of speech? Regina seems to be onto something.

As for Avery, given how another Canoe article title 'Leafs coach blasts Avery' I'd be willing to bet the Leafs will pick him up. They've need a new big mouth on the team since Tucker's departure. At least Avery will be able to back up his words.

What disgusting comments by Regina. Your comments are worse than Avery's and spoken publicly are slander. I'm appalled that they were even printed. The moderator of this forum must be asleep. As for Avery, I hope the Stars dump him where he belongs, in the gutter. To keep him around in the NHL would be an insult to every professional Hockey Player.

The NHL is about professionalism and class. Avery has neither. Turf the loser for life from this fine league.

Regina: do you know Elisha Cuthbert personally? Have you ever met her? Are you related to her? Do you know her ex-boyfriends? Do you know anyone who is close friends with her? If the answer to all the above questions is NO then zip it and go back to reading your copy of the Enquirer. Just because she dated a few different NHL players doesn't make her a ho. She is worth more money than most NHL players so who is the gold digger here? I'd say Avery wishes he could have her back seeing he might be out of work soon.
Avery must go!!!, 2008-12-04 09:51:59

Avery is a disgrace to hockey. He should be forced out of the league. The guy has no class or talent. Matthew Barnaby, Stu Barnes and Claude Lemieux had more class than Avery, and they were among the most hated by fans and opposing players.

Besides, If Avery we such a ladies man, how come he couldn't hold onto to such lovely women. I know why, because they wanted a real man.

During last year's playoffs, Martin Brodeur should drove his stick down Avery throat for his actions. Maybe then Old Seany boy wouldn't be so cocky. But you can be rest assured his actions and antics will upset the wrong person someday in the NHL, and Avery will be eating through a straw.

I don't think he crossed the line. Is there a line?

Look, his comments were of poor taste but they weren't slanderous or abusive. I'm not trying to defend the guy, but he's fairly harmless. Sean Avery is just a jerk. Plain and simple. There are jerks everywhere and in every profession. Best way to deal with them is to ignore them.
