Would Avery be a good fit for the Rangers?
Sat, February 7, 2009

BRUCE GARRIOCH, SUN MEDIA

Sean Avery's road back to the NHL has officially started.

The suspended Dallas Stars winger was placed on waivers today, which means he's ready to play after undergoing counselling, following comments he made earlier this season in Calgary.

If nobody claims him he will clear Monday at noon. The belief is the New York Rangers have discussed the possiblity of bringing in Avery at half-price. He still has three-years, $12 million remaining on his contract.

Would Avery be a good fit with the Rangers? Have your say in our forum.

Hey ,all you Leafs haters how about dealing with the topic! Does trashing the Leafs and avoiding the topic make your day? Ya losers! If I had cancer and someone started making cheap comments about it they'd get knuckled. Low life piece of trash. It's got nothing to do with hockey. It's got everything to do with class and morals.

Whaa Whaaa, boo-hoo. Avery's bad mouth offended Tucker. Too much. Tucker is the biggest jerk in the league. At least Avery can back it up as he did on Saturday night. Tucker is a weanie. Everybody knows it. He is a laughing stock. How do you think that he got the nickname "sideshow Bob?

Hold on a sec, is the camera on me?...lemme take off my helmet ....and I'll put on my angry/injured/pissed-off face. Hey Ref! Ref over here....it's me Tucker....c'mon Ref.....avery said some bad words at me.......he even said I was a baby....boohoo.

I had to laugh at Tucker saying Avery has no class. That has got to be the absolute best case of 'the pot calling the kettle black'.

If anything is looked into, it should be the slash that Tucker gave Avery.

This all comes back to what we learned in kindergarten: Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me.

Tucker should try using that next time Avery, or anyone else, agitates him.

Yes Avery does cross the line. He is a low life scum bag saying things about Blake and his cancer illness. One of the leagues heavy weights needs to straighten him out. Even a Ranger team mate told Howard Berger he wanted to strangle Avery. That says it all when a team mate feels that way about you.

Hey BK Lewis,

Relax, Belak did not threaten to kill Avery. His exact words were,"if (Avery) keeps this up, someone is going to kill him."

Please don't exaggerate. Belak did not personally thereaten to kill him.Do you think someone really would kill him? Enough with the idiot comments. Avery will be dealt with and the players will sort it out like they always do. Avery has to live with his idiot personality. He will be in public and looked at every where he goes as the mouthpiece. Same as Kenny Linseman did years ago. Ya think these guys would rather be in public and enjoying respect from the public. He won't. By the way I am not a Toronto fan.

Everybody may see the need of taking sides between Avery and Tucker. Who cares. The fact remains that trash talk to get your team going is fine but cheap personal shots are not needed. What ever happened to the respect players have or had for each other in the past? Avery needs a lesson in respect. Mr. Belak if you please!!!

Sticks and stones, baby. It's hockey....Maybe the Leafs should focus internally on winning instead of whining. Poor babies...can't score, can't skate, can't cover guys in front of the net, can't goaltend....all that would surely be solved if people would just stop talking nasty to them....Awwww! Would the widdle weafs wike to have the weague step in.

Perhaps playing the game well would be a better idea.

BLAKE STARTED it with slash across Averys' leg. Tucker had fire in his eyes looking like a Mad Man ready to kill. Belak should be suspended not Avery. Tucker has to stop whining. Avery is doing his job, he does not play with intent to injure its Hockey. Get Over It. Colin Campbell be sure to look at ALL the players involved... Not just Avery, see you on the sidelines Tucker, Blake, Belak.

The odd skirmish is one thing. Slashing, putting someone into the boards, whatever. But pre-game personal shots are NOT part of the game, I don't care what you say. Tucker is a feisty guy and can play dirty with the rest of them, but he isn't cruel. Hockey might be mean, bad, and painful, but I don't see where there's any room for players to be cruel to one another. And come on! Take Belak's comments in context! He wasn't threatening Avery. He was just saying that a guy like Avery has got to be careful with his mouth. Last I checked, hockey doesn't employ one's mouth. Just play the damn game already!!!

I absolutely agree with Belak - a very public acknowledgement was made that Blake has cancer, and we all saw emotional he was about it. Pestering someone is one thing, but that's a personal issue, and one that really hits hard for Blake. Sure, we've had pests in the past, now we have rules to protect them so they can go as far as they want, and the person who shuts them up will be the one in trouble. Drop the instigator and the third man rules and Avery is a 4th line benchwarmer at best - I could be great playing on lines with Brendan Shanahan in NY and Joe Sakic in Colorado.
