Would Avery be a good fit for the Rangers?
Sat, February 7, 2009

BRUCE GARRIOCH, SUN MEDIA

Sean Avery's road back to the NHL has officially started.

The suspended Dallas Stars winger was placed on waivers today, which means he's ready to play after undergoing counselling, following comments he made earlier this season in Calgary.

If nobody claims him he will clear Monday at noon. The belief is the New York Rangers have discussed the possiblity of bringing in Avery at half-price. He still has three-years, $12 million remaining on his contract.

Would Avery be a good fit with the Rangers? Have your say in our forum.

Jeff, do you really think Colton Orr will be sent out to protect Avery? Ya, the Rangers will send Orr out to protect Avery and leave Jagr, Shanahan and the rest of the skilled players to fend for themselves. Avery is too smart to fight Belak in the next game, and doesn't have the backbone to do it anyway. When he backs down and runs away he'll be branded a coward. The problem is then Avery will get a wired up like any little fish with a big mouth and go after Belak. Belak will then pummel him.

So everyone thinks Wade Belak should dress the next time the Leafs play the Rangers?Figure it out!Do you think Avery is stupid enough to fight that bozo? This is why the Rangers have a guy like Colton Orr in their lineup.Maybe he should fight Tucker to straighten him out also.

Darcy Tucker and Sean Avery are the two biggest disgraces in hockey. But mocking someone with cancer and making derogatory comments about someone's family members are WAAAAAY over the line. I hate Tucker with a passion, but Sean Avery takes it to such a level that I think he should be blackballed by the entire league. He's nothing but a classless black eye for the entire sport. The Rangers ought to wash their hands of him just like the Kings did, and any other GM who will give him the time of day should be held 100% accountable for whatever trouble he instigates.

Who cares who said what? It's just a smoke screen to take the attention off the poor state of the Leafs. NO new talent in years, NO good trades, NO good signings in the off season, NO good management. I wish everybody would boycott Leafs TV. The richest team in the league and they are charging to see 25% of the games on TV. Last year 12 games, this year 19. HOW MANY NEXT YEAR? 40? This is ridiculess, they claim they are bringing games you wouldn't normally be able to watch, lol, then why charge for it? I'm slowly losing interest in the Leafs, a team I've be following for over 50 years.

You all want Avery on your team! Admit it! He crosses the line, he runs the goalie...every team needs an Avery, if you cant handle yapping from a little dog, what are you gonna do when the big dog bites!! Tucker is a fairy, faker, diver, a real embarassment to the NHL!
bobaboba, 2007-11-13 16:26:01

Millionaire whiners!!!!...don't waste time on adults calling each other names and getting paid millions of dollars, police hear it everyday with a tiny portion of the pay and without the glory ...so shut up and play hockey and be thankful that you can enjoy your way of life!!!

The only player in the league with less class than Avery is Daniel Alfredsson. At least Avery doesn't fire slapshots at future Hall of Famers.
Maple Leafs Forever, 2007-11-13 16:06:31

Tucker calling out anyone about there antics is laughable...its the same player...Tucker/Avery. The only difference is Tucker is a better scorer. They both are annoying pests.

This is just a case of Class A whining. If Avery actually said anything to Blake, in reference to his battle with cancer, you would have thought that just about every other Leafs player, including Blake himself, would have tried to take Avery's head off that night. Based on what I've heard on talk shows and read in the forums, that’s the least any of the fans who have been outraged by this "alleged verbal insult" would have expected from one of Toronto's players. As it was, I guess only Tucker took offence and the rest of the Leafs thought the matter closed when Avery put Tucker on his *ss. Wonder why? And what is with Don Cherry?

In retrospect, how much of a story would this have been had the Leafs won the game and not had Sean Avery be so dominant over them???

Does anybody know if Avery was asked what he said? Let him explain it and see if he has the sack to tell the truth, Blake doesn't need to relive it.

Avery just needs to know that on Dec. 6, if Paul Maurice is smart, Wade Belak will be in the lineup, so he should be ready for a long and painful night.
