Would Avery be a good fit for the Rangers?
Sat, February 7, 2009

BRUCE GARRIOCH, SUN MEDIA

Sean Avery's road back to the NHL has officially started.

The suspended Dallas Stars winger was placed on waivers today, which means he's ready to play after undergoing counselling, following comments he made earlier this season in Calgary.

If nobody claims him he will clear Monday at noon. The belief is the New York Rangers have discussed the possiblity of bringing in Avery at half-price. He still has three-years, $12 million remaining on his contract.

Would Avery be a good fit with the Rangers? Have your say in our forum.

Jimmy, are you an American or just a closet Philly fan. Finally something to cheer about eh.

Clarke must have been a heck of a hockey player and captain then to take a team of goons and win back to back Stanley Cups.

Dont forget they were also a fairly new expansion team to boot. Thats quite an accomplishment to win back to back cups after being in the league less than 10 years. Sounds like you are jealous pete. Typical Leafs fan you moron.

The Ducks arent my team. They did lead the league in fighting majors so they were trying to intimidate the rest of the league with there fighting. For the most part it worked.

You and wayne must be friends LOL. Now there are 2 retards acting tough on the net, petey and wayne LOL.

I guess you dont know that the Boston Bruins had alot of goons back then to.

You must have been drinking liquid courage when you typed that comment LOL.

You wouldnt last 1 game in my mens league petey boy. You would be taken out on a stretcher. Then quit because hockey is to rough for you.

Jimmy, didn't say he was in the penalty box, implied his goons were. What I said was he was the leader of the goons. And oh yeah I would like to figure skate all over your arse. How are your might ducks doing this year. Yeah Teemu the Niedermayers, Perry, tough group. ooh really scarry. Listen I said earlier you were an idiot and I stand by it. the league wanted a US team to do well. Thats where 300 million potential viewers are. They turned a blind eye. Again given the opportunity and I'll figure skate all over your tough arse.

Clarke was a talented hockey player. He didnt get over a 100 points a year sitting in the penalty box or represent Canada in the Canada Cup. Who do you think the Ducks patterened there play after last year leading the league in fighting majors ? You dont know what your talking about you. If hockey is to rough for you start watching figure skating.

Jimmy, it's getting weary people misquoting and misinterpreting. Clarke was the leader of a bunch of goons, not hockey players, but criminals. They bullied their way to two Stanley Cups, they should have been in jail. He is no leader he is an idiot not unlike yourself.

Clarke won 2 stanley cups as a captain. He was league MVP, won a scoring title, a Canada Cup.

He did nothing good as GM that I agree with.
Jimmy, 2007-11-18 19:34:21

Bobby Clarke was a leader. Just as he has lead Philly as a GM. Fired his winning coach because he contracted cancer. What a leader. Broke Karlomov's ankle. etc. etc. and you consider him a leader. you are misguided Bill. He was a leader of goons, guys just like Avery.
Pete, 2007-11-17 15:10:43

Avery is a player whose career high for goals is 18 in one season. He's paid to be a pest, plain and simple. Bobby Clarke was a leader, Avery is far from that. Bobby Clakre lipped off to everyone, Avery goes for Blake, Tucker and Brodeur, guys that are either the same size or too smart to retaliate. He'll get his soon enough.
Dave, 2007-11-16 11:40:54

I have to agree with the likes of GW and Parney. The problem is not and was not Avery. Tucker was the instigator in all of this and he was the one sticking his stick in Avery's face and chest. It appears Tucker crossed the centre line as well. Toronto and it's players are a zoo. As for Marlyn's comment that there is no place in the game for the likes of Avery. I beg to differ, the league has always had this type of player, Bobby Clarke, Ken Linsmen, Essa Tikanen etc. etc. Toronto will grasp at anything to deflect the media from their inept ability to either score or prevent someone else from scoring.
