Saku and Sakic, hands down. For more reasons than just points scored.

Saku Koivu for coming back from cancer. And this is coming from a Leafs fan.

Jason Smith is the perfect example of a good captain.
He is physical, fights, blocks shots. He will do whatever it takes to win.

Gustav
I have to agree with you. Sundin is a poor excuse for a captain. I always laugh at him when the game is over and he gets interviewed, first thing he always says is we have to be better in our own end. No kidding really, and what does Sundin do in his own end ? Nothing. Biggest mistake the Leaf organization made was naming him captain. If the rumours are true he will be gone after this year either by trade at the deadline or wont be resigned.

One of these can easily be the best captains in the NHL.Jean Beliveau, Dave Keon, Mark Messier.

well the worst is probably sundin. He couldn't lead a team of Lemmings. Rememberlast year while the leafs tried to make a run at making the playoffs, Sundin scored once in the final 20 games.... real clutch eh hosers?

I think Jason Smith and Jarome Iginla. Both will fight, take the body and take a hit to make a play.
Smith wasnt good enough for the Leafs but has gone on to captain 2 teams, went to the finals with Edmonton though lol.
He could win a cup with the Flyers in the next few years while the Leafs struggle to make the 8th spot as usual.

It wasn't too hard to figure out the writer's home bias on this one; it was the second-last paragraph before it was even mentioned that Montreal was their opponent.
Chuck, 2007-11-11 12:48:01
I'm having a hard time with that !! Maybe they should look at Jason Smith of the Flyers and when he was with the Oilers, hard nosed and can take a pounding, did Alfie get stitches sitting on the bench or did he turn european and get taken off on a stretcher like a soccer player.

Best player on the ice every night. Defensive-minded, yet an offensive threat on every shift. Sacrifices salary to keep team competitive. Shoulders the blame when the team takes the night off. Nobody knows what he's like inside the dressing room, but if leading by example is a captain's asset, then Alfie's your man. Crosby's a close second.
dt sounds jealous, but who can blame him?
