Can the Oilers make the post-season?
Mon, March 31, 2008

Can exuberance make up for inexperience? Can momentum make it possible to scoff at long odds?

The Edmonton Oilers insist the answer is yes. And now that they've climbed to within three points of a Western Conference playoff berth with 12 wins in their last 15 games, who's to say they're wrong?

Can the Oilers make the post-season? Have your say in our forum.

I think their still a young team.still no excuse for their playing. One player gets hurt one more player has to step and get the team under control.I still like the the oilers though .once they find their groove you better look out.So don't worry who's hurt.one player doe's not win a game it takes a team effort.SO MCTAVISH GET YOUR TROOPS TOGHTHER.OUR it's going to be long season.

I dont know, I hope they can but they are very young. Maybe they shouldnt make the playoffs this year so they can get another good young player like Gagne and Cogliano. At least there future looks good with them 2 leading the way for years to come.

They are young and still learning. They have few players that are having a tough time.I think they will come around once those young guys get a nose for the net.Oilers hockey is always exciting and a bit hard on the nerves. They are playing in a tough division where some of the teams did not make too many moves. The league really needs to do something with all the pick plays. The NHL wants to open the game up but they allow that kind of stuff to slow the game down. Get that out and the oilers will rock.

Dave your wrong about the coaching staff. They don't have much to work with. There is lots of young players and only a few of the oil have played together before this season. They will come around if most of the players get traded again. As for this season I regret to say. . . I believe it will be a pritty quite season here in oil country.

Yes we can. Remember when we started off 3-7 in the 2005-2006 season, and went on that amazing cup run. Of course there is time to turn it around. And plus, look at the injuries we have. No puck moving defenseman, sounds fimiliar (last season). I truely believe we are in a far better position than last year, hemsky is scoring, penner is slowly pick up his game, and gagner and cogliano inject youthful enthusiasm to the lineup. There is plenty of time to turn it around. And don't worry, I can't see the oilers being a lottery team this year, but i do see the ducks being that :D.

Mac-T and Lowe have to go. They should've both been canned at the end of last season. Until those two guys are gone, the Oilers are doomed.

with all the injusies coming back and with the proper direction the oilers definitley turn it around...its karma!!!

I believe the Oilers can turn things around. They signed two top notch defencemen and now both are hurt, plus Matt Greene who was heading for taking the spot of Jason Smith. Once they get their gritty captain back on the ice and two of the three injured defencemen return they will start winning and work their way up in the standings.

I truly believe the Oil can turn things around this season, but a few things must take place first. If, after one of the injured D come back, they send Smid back to Springfield and keep that tool Grebeshkov, then MacT is a moron. Ladi Smid proved against the Avs on Wednesday that he deserves to be in the NHL far more than Greb. I'm not sure why MacT continues to put this guy on the ice in key situations...he's allergic to the puck and wants nothing to do with it when he gets it...he should be sent away.

But, in all honesty, I believe the biggest problem with the Oilers is the coaching staff - all of them have to go or this team's toast.
