Can the Oilers make the post-season?
Mon, March 31, 2008

Can exuberance make up for inexperience? Can momentum make it possible to scoff at long odds?

The Edmonton Oilers insist the answer is yes. And now that they've climbed to within three points of a Western Conference playoff berth with 12 wins in their last 15 games, who's to say they're wrong?

Can the Oilers make the post-season? Have your say in our forum.

a team that wants the playoff season needs to start playing in November and not in March. The Oilers are driving hard... but unfortunately, the 'Nucks, Flames, Wild and 'Avs have been playing this way since November. Sorry George... the Oil aint gonna be getting any freebies from the Flames... 5 games left and 7 points back of Calgary with Calgary and Minny' trying and vying for first.

The Oil might sneek in to 8th, but not likely. Lose MacT and Rob Lowe and get some hockey people running that organisation and maybe one day there will be two NHL teams in Alberta again !!!

grin :)

Just teasing Oil fans... you got some talented youth.. just a coach to get them directed.

Well they are finishing the year better than they started. I thinkn its past the "do or die". Next year we will see a better team that will atleast make the playoffs. assuming they leave the team alone for the most part. Maybe let Rollie leave the team as he wishes and find a place for Suray. Stick taper maybe.

hopefuly they can. this is a pretty exciting team to watch with a lot of great young players.

Here ya go, Norbit. This thread died in November after only 16 responses, none of which came from you! Some Oilers fan.

Just kidding ya a bit. Seriously, their resurgence of late is nothing short of remarkable, particularly with all the injuries to key players. Wouldn't it be something to see them get in - at the expense of the Flames?

what will hurt the most is when they finish near the bottom, win the lottery for first pick and then have to give it to that blow hard on in Anaheim.

I don't think it has anything to do with their coach. They just don't have the experience yet with so many young players. Give them a year or two and they might make the playoffs.

No, I believe that the team has given up on the Coach. Until they fire MacT and get rid of Lowe I don't have much faith with the Oilers.

Go Blackhawks!!

Can they turn it around? Absolutely, anything's possible. Will they? Not likely. There are too many teams in the West that are much stronger and deeper than Edmonton.

Anybody can still turn their season around. It's still early. Even for the sad sack Oilers from the "City of Champions"

HA HA! Champion this you braggarts!

Some bad decisions by Lowe IE:Penner-overpayment-Suray--injury prone and loading up a team with soft players(Sanderson,Hemsky,Horcoff)plus an overated goaltender). Not much MacTavish can do with that.Better luck next year .
