Has Toskala silenced the goalie controversy?
Mon, November 5, 2007

For the first time since August, you won't hear about a Maple Leafs goaltending controversy in Toronto.

Vesa Toskala has closed the debate with a six-game run that ended Saturday night with a 32-save, 3-2 win in Montreal.

Has Toskala silenced the starting goalie debate in Toronto? Have your say in our forum.

Toskala is the better goalie no question about it. Its a good start, now they have to improve the defence and forwards.

Look at Chicago with Toews and Kane, thats what the Leafs have to do to get better, miss the playoffs for a few years and start drafting good young kids.

Funny how people blame Raycroft, the Leafs ALL TIME leader in wins for a single season for missing the playoffs...

JR:

Could you clarify your post for the rest of us? Are you saying that the Leafs have to make the playoffs to have a chance to meet the Sens in the playoffs?

Toady:

Good to see another Leaf fan like yourself making posts with some thoughful comments on the topic vs. the normal Leaf-bashing cement heads.

Check out some of the Sens/Leaf banter under the topic "Have the Sens spent themselves into a hole?"

I predict a Leaf win tonight!!!

Doesn't matter whose in net, they need a defence in front of them, they'll never win a 7 game series without any defence. But Vesa is by far the better goalie.

PS Toady, you have to make the playoffs to play the Sens. You might want to check the standings and note how you've played more games.

Vesa is way better than Raycroft who cost us a playoff spot last year with his inconsistent play. We have a number one goalie now. Also, Wellwood is back tonight which should help out the team.

JFJ actually may have made a good move, lets see how Bell does. Very tough game tonight though, sens are just so full of themselves -yuck.

If the leafs make the playoffs and meet the sens it will be bye bye sens again 4 times or is that 5 sorry lost count on that one. GO LEAFS GO!

In my opinion Toskala has proven himself. At the same time Raycroft has improved his technical game. As a result the Leafs have both a dependable starter and a competent backup.

I think it's pretty obvious he has. He looks like he'll be able to handle playing a lot of minutes.

I think Toskala is showing signs of being a good number 1 goalie, certainly he should be favoured over Raycroft. There were a number of situations in the game against Montreal the other night that Raycroft could have been counted on to give up a goal at a key time in the game - as he did a number of times last year. I hope Toskala turns out to be one JFJ pick up that works out - he still has to go however.
