Ottawa better win it this year, because it's not going to get any easier with other teams improving.

The Sens are stealing a page from Sutters book on locking up your best players before they become unrestricted free agents.
Heatley is a bargain but I think they overpaid Spezza. Time will tell though.
Kirk, 2007-11-14 10:34:59
They have made very good deals to lock up there stars for years to come. Now they wont lose them to unrestricted free agency, smart business moves if you ask me.

Ben, I don't see the parallel that you are using with the "American bashing". I also don't agree with your comment "everyone else in their respective domains hates them (Americans)". You went overboard. That has nothing to do with a topic of such little importance as how good a hockey team is, and is not. I am certain that you are not anti-American, especially if you are a professional sports fan. There are plenty of good Americans in the NHL and the CFL as well as the NFL. I just think that your emotions got the better of you to respond as irrationally as you did.
I prefer the Americans as our neighbours and friends as opposed to let's say, about any of their, and our enemies. We must stick together. The Americans may behave like pompous asses at times, but they're our pompous asses! We all have our faults, but nobody stands up for what they believe in and willing to accept the consequences more than the Americans. That in itself speaks volumes about their commitment to justice.
By the way, have you gone shopping across south of the border like many other Canadians have been doing lately?
Americans are our allies and friends, regardless of our collective enemies' public opinion.
I suggest that you don't get sucked in by being influenced by their outrageous exhortations. Wake up and smell the coffee!

Jake what the hell are you smokin? The coach hasn't a clue what he is doing. The idiot that call himself the GM don't know how to pick flowers let alone pick hockey players. All he has is his father's name and nothing else.
Bob, 2007-11-06 18:57:25
Jake,
First you have to make the playoffs in order for us to beat you. Unfortunately, with that probably not happening in the next little while we Sens fans might have to wait a little longer to finally shut you guys up.
John, 2007-11-06 18:10:33
I myself always wonder why Leaf fans always feel the need to bash the Sens fan and bring up things that have nothing to do with the question? Could it be that they are like Americans, where they have to assert their supposed "dominance" even though they fully realize everyone else in their respective domains hate them?
Could it be because their greatest glory in 40+ years is a couple of meaningless playoff wins? I'd be jealous and bitter too if my team was constantly upstaged by a much poorer cousin that is supposedly "worse off".
Ben, 2007-11-06 18:08:05
I will correct you because you ARE wrong, Jake. I didn't say Ottawa was a greater "sports" town than Toronto, but I DID say the fans in Ottawa generally support their prime hockey teams overall better than they do in Toronto. That's a simple fact. Look it up. The 67's and Olympiques both draw to capacity more often than not, whereas you can't say that for the Major Junior teams in the GTA.
Of course Ottawa will never compete with Toronto on a broad sports scale. So what? But what Ottawa does have is an organization built to succeed, from the owner on down. Quick, tell me, who is the face of the Leafs ownership? And can you tell me with any certainty that they care? Why would they when they already have a licence to mint money?
It's sad when all you have to hang your hat on over a 40+ year period is a series of playoff wins over one team in particular.
George O'Leary, 2007-11-06 17:56:36
Sens fans are certainly a sensitive bunch if this string of posts is any indication. They should ask themselves why they always measure the success of the Sens by reference to the Leafs. Are you all still bitter about past playoff losses to the Leafs. Instead, you should celebrate the past playoff successes vs. the Leafs - Oh wait - there haven't been past playoff successes vs. the Leafs, even with vastly superior Sens teams in some of the meetings.
Jake, 2007-11-06 16:38:52
To those tearing up Ottawa as a sports town, look at it this way. Ottawa will never be to the point the Leafs are right now and have been for the last few years. They are a team that drafts well and is well stocked to go win going forward for the foreseeable future and they have a management and coaching staff that is all on the same page with regards to the direction of the team. The Leafs draft poorly, have an conservative, virtually absentee ownership group, a lame duck GM and a team on the ice that features very little above average talent. In Ottawa they have a GM who is willing to make those hard choices with regards to the team on the ice. Toronto has a GM that is questioned at every turn and allows the media and fans to decide who should stay and go on the team.
