What effect will the NFL have in Toronto?
Tue, April 15, 2008

The Buffalo Bills are coming to Toronto.

The NFL has reached an agreement with the Bills that will allow them to play eight games -- five regular-season contests and three exhibitions -- in Toronto over the next five years.

Will games north of the border have any effect on the CFL? Would you go to an NFL game in Canada? Have your say in our forum.

A foothold in Toronto

Now you read this very carefully Vince, you Crybaby SCUM:

The pathetic argonots only draw half of the capacity the Rogers Centre holds. An NFL team would draw, AT THE VERY LEAST, 10 TIMES THAT CAPACITY AND PROBLABLY MORE FOR A TORONTO NFL TEAM.

Corporate Toronto has already declared they would back an NFL team and could not give a rats about the CFL. Toronto is a world class city that demands an NFL team because it is a major league brand that employs the best. The CFL is a minor league brand that employs castoffs and retreads that WISH they were playing in the NFL.

And now that you damn well know what the truth is, you should prepare yourselves for the coming of real football in this city down the road!

And one more thing, DON'T YOU EVER QUESTION MY PATRIOTISM AND LOVE FOR THIS COUNTRY AGAIN!!! I AM A CANADIAN THAT WANTS THE BEST FOR MY COUNTRY. Perhaps you should move out to the boondocks in the West where they love and celebrate Canadian mediocrity.

It's SCUM like you that hold this great country of ours back. God your ilk sickens us!

Hey there "ultratoll". You use pretty strong language to as cerebral debate. You sound like one of those American wannabees. How do we know that maybe you are not already an American Immigrant. Those that feel that strongly about bringing in American football culture to Canada then one can get it much quicker by hopping across the border by going to Buffalo. Huge outcry that demands an NFL team placed in Toronto? Really? Did you take a poll? I have not seen nor heard of one, unless you count Paul Godfrey and friends. The comments herein are strong evidence that dispute your claim.

I have three words to pass along to all those cfl lovers out there:

EAT IT, SCUM!!!!!

We are SICK and TIRED of all these cfl Scum telling us what we should have and have not in this great country of ours. There is a huge outcry that DEMANDS an NFL team be placed in Toronto. We have already declared the cfl to be a minor league outfit in a world class major league market and we DEMAND a major league organization like the NFL come to Toronto. AND YOU cfl SCUM HAVE THE UNMITIGATED GALL TO TELL US WHAT WE SHOULD BRING TO OUR CITY???

Well it's time for Toronto to tell the rest of Canada to BACK THE HELL OFF!!! How would you like it if we told you what you should have in your cities? You go off and watch your precious three down joke of a game and we'll bring in the greatest talent to play the sport. And don't you SCUM DARE try bring up protectionist laws to keep the NFL from putting a team here. It was a joke to force Canadian culture down our throats, whether we wanted it or not, and in the age of free trade and globalization it makes even less sense to do it. You think free enterprise loving Stephen Harper is gonna try and pull a Trudeau and block the NFL from coming here? Over our COLD DEAD BODIES he will!

The NFL IS coming to Canada, sooner than you realize. ACCEPT IT, SCUM!!!

I would not go to see an NFL game. I don't have any close connection to any other town's football team, whether it is Canadian or not. It is still a foreign League. The NFL is more a business than a sport. It really is a collection of somebody else's team in somebody else's league. There is no real sport connectivity to it. I watch it on TV because it is free but, a live game at the stadium is very boring with the very long huddles and the endless teams' times-out (timeouts?) not to mention the too numerous commercials times-out.

The NFL is an American thing.

The CFL is where football in Canada is really at. The CFL is much, much, more sport than a business. It is precious.

American Football is designed by Americans, for Americans.

The CFL is ours. Go Canada Go!

Yes. The best football players in the world are in the NFL.It's like comparing college hockey to the NHL.CFL has mostly American players anyways,so go easy on your patriotism B Gareau.

Why doesn't some one write a story about how much it would REALLY COST people to see an NFL game at the , R.C.? Oh , those huge licencing fees?

AND then ask people , who are getting NFL season tickets?

The big MYTH is that the NFL is more popular than the CFL in , Ontario.

Not according to , the CFL's T.V. ratings , which out draw , the NFL , 3 to 1 , each week in , CANADA / ONTARIO.

The , 2007 GREY CUP , in , TORONTO , is all but sold out.

The TORONTO media , needs the NFL , more than the NFL needs them [TORONTO].

It is sad when another Canadian says , " If the ARGOS , want a job they can serve beer "

Can Canadian players from CALGARY , EDMONTON , HAMILTON , WINNIPEG , SASK. , MONTREAL , sell beer too?

How selfish can people be???

I went to a game with my son a couple of weeks ago between the bills and the jets(first nfl game). The only thing that made it exciting was the crowd.I'd rather spend my money on the CFL.A lot more fun.
Ross Jarrett, 2007-10-19 18:28:55

No I would not... over-priced hype. CFL delivers value and more excitement on the field!
jerry tagge, 2007-10-19 15:40:52

To tj and all the other guys who want the nfl. Why don't you just move to the US and become American's and leave the real Canadians to our game of 3 down football! By the way we Canadians invented football.
B Gareau Rider Fan, 2007-10-19 15:23:13

No. I would use the visit to see the CFL, which I greatly enjoy. As a Bills season ticket holder, I don't mind losing a regular season game as long as it is in December when the Rogers Centre dome would be put to good use, instead of making fans sit in a snow storm.
