What effect will the NFL have in Toronto?
Tue, April 15, 2008

The Buffalo Bills are coming to Toronto.

The NFL has reached an agreement with the Bills that will allow them to play eight games -- five regular-season contests and three exhibitions -- in Toronto over the next five years.

Will games north of the border have any effect on the CFL? Would you go to an NFL game in Canada? Have your say in our forum.

A foothold in Toronto

I agree but I think them trading away there top prospects for several years and the team being 500 at best was more of a reason fans stayed away than the strike did. I agree the strike played a part no doubt about it, but after watching the Jays win back to back World Series and then struggle to play 500 ball is the bigger reason fans stopped going.

But, I'd rather have 2 World Championships and have an average or pretty bad team for years after than getting close and never winning.

At least we can remember the amazing 2 years.:)

It wasnt the strike so much as the Jays werent that good after trading away their future for rental players for the stretch drives and playoffs.

It was a steep price to pay for the 2 world series wins.

Toronto fans really stopped going to the games after the strike in 1994. Until then, they had sellouts every single game (from what I remember).

The lustre of the new domed stadium wore off around that time as well and instead of being the thing to do, it was just a baseball game. Only the real fans still attended.

Even if the Blue Jays were to win the World Series, I think they'd be hard pressed to sell out every game - or even half of them.

My comment was directed to Mike in Ottawa.

Bill, Ottawa has fickle fans? Montreal was the same with both Baseball and Football, the team did well, the fans attended. The team didn't do well the fans stayed home. Come to think of it, prior to this year the Habs weren't even selling out every game like years ago. Toronto fans and the Blue Jays, same thing, teams is a winner and 50k fans go, Team is a stinker and they're lucky to get 25k. Difference is, Leaf fans keep going and paying regardless and thats why you'll never be a contender just a pretender.

Look at the rough riders to lol. Ottawa are a bunch of fickle fans, unless its a championship contending team every year the fans wont support them. Not sure which fans are worse, Ottawa for not supporting teams that struggle or Maple Leaf fans that have supported a losing team for 41 years and counting.

Kevin, 2008-04-17 18:35:20

It will be a huge effect for Toronto. It will be a boost for the hotels and resturants. Also it will help with the tourism once the americans see what a great city Toronto is with so many things to do.

Only bad thing is Rogers will raise my cable and cell phone fees to pay for his newest toy lol.

Go Toronto Bills GO
