Did Bob Hartley deserve to be fired?
Wed, October 17, 2007

The Atlanta Thrashers fired head coach Bob Hartley on Wednesday after opening the NHL season with six straight losses.

The Thrashers, coming off their first ever playoff appearance, find themselves in the NHL basement. They have the fewest goals for in the league at nine and the third-most goals against at 27, ahead of only Toronto (28) and Los Angeles (30).

Hartley, who won a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2001, was in his fifth season with Atlanta.

Who do you think about the firing? Was it too quick to pull the trigger? Have your say.

You can only coach the players the GM gets you... So why didn't the GM get fired for bringing in players who don't play hard or fit in the system???

6 games? Knee jerk reaction to be sure, but Hartley the real jerk anyway.

I was caught off guard it happened so early in the season. 6 games ? Last year they won the division so he deserved longer than this.

This team isnt very good. Holik there 1st line center is really a 3rd line checking center. Marion Hossa is a super star but after him the talent drops off big time.

Who would want to go coach the Trashers, they arent going to make the playoffs unless they make some trades.

I think you should be looking at edmonton craig mctavish's record has been very poor yet his job seems to be safe....time for hartley to come to edmonton

The coaching merry-go-round in the NHL continues.

With a Win or Else directive from upper management, it is no wonder successful coaches will continue to stiffle innovative, wide open, firebrand hockey by replacing it with borderline obstructionism, the trap and other mundane defensive systems lulling fans into a deep sleep. Do not be surprised at the end of the current season no 50-goal scorers or 100 point show up in the final stats.

Until a more reasoned approach and some type of job security for NHL coaches is established, do not be amazed that a 30 to 40 per cent staff turnover becomes the norm.

I'm sad Hartley got canned again. Atlanta cut him too quick. He's done a phenomenal job strengthening the Atlanta Thrashers since he got there and this loss streak is merely a tiny blip in comparison. There are a lot more factors involved than just Hartley being the head coach. I'm sad to see him go.
