Should McCabe be traded?
Sun, February 3, 2008

Will Bryan McCabe return to the Maple Leafs lineup just in time to be traded?

The Leafs highest paid defenceman has been a target of boo birds in Toronto for his play. Should the Leafs try and trade McCabe?

Have your say in our forum.

old men like brian nats and the rest of them have already proven that they can win nothing but a high salary and an audience of fans who are dumb enough to support them

well.. I get a kick out of all this Toronto trade talk

Consider the following...What foolish organization would want anyone in the Leaf lineup ??? the scouts are not looking at the Leafs...they are looking at the Leafs opposition !!!

And don't try to tell me Sundin is worthwhile...he has given up !!!!

John: YOU must be drunk if you think you'd land Chris Neil for a bum like McCabe. Neil is twice the player McCabe is.

yea let some other team have the plug.. trade him for a bag of pucks or a dozen sticks.. wait a minute that would be too much.. he is useless!!!!!

It will make no dif whether they trade Mcabe or not at this point in the season.

They need to look to drafts and contracts that are ending.

Trade him to Ottawa for Chris Neil.Oh yes,get Bryan Murray drunk first, like JFJ must have been when he McCabe gave him that fat contract!
John, 2008-02-04 13:57:18

Yeah he should be traded for the sake of the leafs and the fans. However lets be realistic who would want him. Even if he didn't have a crazy arse contract. No one would take him for free.

Who cares... the Maple Laffs suck with or without him.

Sam- great observation. Agreed McCabe might be overpaid as most NHL'ers are, but from a pure hockey standpoint, I wouldn't trade him atleast not this year. His value is not high. To trade a player of this significance- the so-called #1 Dman of the Leafs- you have to get value in return for that type of player and I don't think the value is there. Plus everyone please get a grip that the return of Fletcher does not instantly mean he is going to tear apart this team. If the Leafs win 3-4 or 5 games in a row they can be sitting in a playoff spot. One thing about McCabe that maybe is forgotten, is his major move the can-opener- its gone and he has had to adjust and more so, his best seasons where under Pat Quinn- some plyers excel under certain coaches. I am die hard Leafs fan but a realistic one, but the media and the topsy turvy wishy washy bandwagoners have to get a grip. Booed out of Leafland was Larry Murphy- what did he do wrong- so why gas out McCabe? Is he really that bad? or are we prejudiced based on his salary? But I bet if he scores 2 goals in consecutive games, the "keep him" light will come on. The main problem in Leafland is the EXPECTATION LEVEL of the media, fans. Trading McCabe does not solve the problems of the Leafs. Mr. Fletcher will do the right thing so let us wait until the man who has been in the industry since 1956 be the man to decide what direction this team is going to go in. All of us Leaf fans can just sit back and focus our energies and start ripping on the Sabres, the Sens, the Habs, The Bruins, the Flyers and everyother Eastern conference foe. Remember, the way it used to be being a fan? Ah, the good old days. Lets face it.. all Leafs fans want to win the Cup but just like the repetitive nature of Leafs management- we are all going about it the wrong way. I am not saying I have the answers, but I am hoping Fletcher does. (Ever notice that the Phoenix Coyotes are starting to make a climb in the West?- afterall Fletcher did have some input there right?)

No they shpuld not trade him. The leafs should stay the bumbling idiots like the rest of the world knows them to be.
