Should McCabe be traded?
Sun, February 3, 2008

Will Bryan McCabe return to the Maple Leafs lineup just in time to be traded?

The Leafs highest paid defenceman has been a target of boo birds in Toronto for his play. Should the Leafs try and trade McCabe?

Have your say in our forum.

He is a horrible defenseman. Be serious. He had one decent year - coincidentally it happened to be his last year on his contract. He is a detriment to the team on defense. He has offensive skill but has to be one of the worst mistake prone defensemen I have ever seen. Every one I talk to sees this. It's not just jump on the bandwagon because he scored on his own net the other night. That is just one error among many - that is the one area that he is consistant. I wish he was worth the money he gets because ultimately I want MY Leafs to win the Cup. McCabe is horrible - I hope he is traded. I was excited this summer when the rumor was he was being shipped to the Isles. Good riddance.

Give McCabe a break!!! Yeah so he has had a rough start to the season...whippee dooo!! Things happen, he isnt the first player to goof up and score in his own net, its not like it was for the Stanley Cup or something....It was an error....things happen!!! As for the money he is making, so what, this is the current day NHL, how many players are making an enormus amount of money and not putting up Gretzky like numbers, if someone is going to pay me Millions of dollars, i am no fool, i am going to take the money and play....Give him a break

I'd miss his boomer from the point. He's still young; he's just entering his prime.

Leafs fans are embarrassing themselves. McCabe is having a rough time but he's still one of the best offensive defensemen in the NHL. Perhaps Leafs fans are just looking for a scapegoat to take all the blame, when they should be blaming a terrible GM and a mediocre (at best) team.

McCabe has lost his defensive game since he signed his big contract. If he wants to score goals, then try him on the wing. I think he sould concentrate on what he did to earn him the big $$$$. Defence first, the goals will come on their own without looking for them.

The Leafs are stuck with Caber. For the past couple of years my suggestion has been to play him regularly on the wing, and on the point on power plays. Why wont Maurice try this?

The Leaf hero with the funny haircut, the proud ownder of the canopener.

Please he's the Sens best advantage over the pathetic Leafs.

no - wrong , fire John F ,this team has gone nowhere since Quinn left - no progress no future - better yet can we get these old farts to sell the team to real hockey people - they run the team like a big company that is full of itself...

I'm not a big McCabe fan, never was but the mistake was to expect the guy to repeat the year he had when he scored 19 goals and everyone hailed him as an elite offensive defenceman. He started to believe it himself. Someone has to sit him down and tell him that we just want him to be an above average defenceman and go back to playing fundamental hockey. Forget trying to score goals. The Leafs have horses who can score goals. Oh yes, and get rid of those knuckleheads Ferguson and Peddie who are to blame for alot of this mess !!

The question is--Should the Leafs try and trade McCabe? The answer I believe is-- why not?-- If there is a way to unload him to a team that would pay the dollars and get a decent player in return. The problem is can we find a dumb enough GM out there?

If we could then McCabe wouldn't have to hear the boos and would probably flourish somewhere else. I know if I got booed to death everytime I made a mistake I'd be wanting to get out of Dodge. I also believe the problems with the Leafs are not going to be solved by getting rid of just one player. Let us fans help create some team chemistry. All we need is a decent winning streak like the tail end of last season and everyone will be back on the bandwagon. Just think if McCabe were to score 3 or 4 game winning goals--What do you think the reaction would be? Cut the warrior some slack and look to improve upper management. In the meantime try to at least support the guys. I do believe they're all trying. If you want a quick fix though I think the question should really be--Should the Leafs try and trade Ferguson?
