Should McCabe be traded?
Sun, February 3, 2008

Will Bryan McCabe return to the Maple Leafs lineup just in time to be traded?

The Leafs highest paid defenceman has been a target of boo birds in Toronto for his play. Should the Leafs try and trade McCabe?

Have your say in our forum.

you know that it's probably a good thing that he is untradeable (read: no team wants him),,,,this way we get to enjoy his bonehead plays for years to come.

if he was in some American backwater, we would only get to see his gaffes on youtube

The leafs should be trading everyone they can and start over..The old days are gone and they can't compete with the rest of the new nhl. They have a long way to go to be in the same class as ottawa

No, they should just release him. Kaberle is far and away the best player on the defense.

In a change of subject - to the Monitor of this site how about a discussion on the idiocy of Divisional "seeding." I'd be curious to see what others think of the playoff formula.

At the moment, for example, Florida could go from 12th to 3rd with a single win over any team, and with three wins Tampa Bay could jump from dead last in the Conference and Southeast Division to 3rd.

Toronto, on the other hand, fresh from back-to-back wins over Montreal and Detroit, could win three more in a row and still be no better than 9th based on games played/wins back of Boston, and yet be 2 points better than Florida if they were the team in 3rd!

I can see where they'd want to guarantee a playoff spot to a Divisional winner, but that spot should be based upon their point total and if that was less than seven other teams that spot should be 8th.

You have to give credit where credit is due. Two big wins after being shelled - and against two of the top teams in the standings at that! Some, of course, will argue that the opposition entered the games figuring it to be an easy 2 points - but what these games illustrates is that, you cannot take the other team for granted. Los Angeles, the worst team in the league insofar as points are concerned, showed that when they scored 4 unanswered goals in the 3rd against Detroit the other night.

The acid test for TO will come when they next face a team as desperate as they are at the moment. And they'll have to rise to the occasion repeatedly for at least 8 to 10 games in order to vault over 6 teams - who, of course, will be winning games here and there themselves. It's a deep hole they've dug for themselves.

To McCabe's only fan: If McCabe played in that Florida game the score would be like 12-0.

He really does suck that much.

I cannot imagine how bad the score will be today. But who really cares.
Goober, 2008-02-09 13:47:32

yup. still can't believe they took Redden over Chara lol. they're still good(as long as Alfie and Heatley are healthy) but with Chara they would be even better.

As for the Leafs, at this point in the season, sitting as low as they are, they would need to win 3 or 4 in a row at least before I would believe McCabe is really that important to their team. Even if they try move him, no one will want to eat his ridiculous salary so the point is moot. They should trade Gill before anyone because he is useless, but once again, who would want him?
