Is Sundin the best Bud ever? Thu, October 11, 2007
Mats Sundin was credited with an assist that gave him a club-record 917 points Thursday night, but television replays did not show him touching the puck on the scoring play.
The announced crowd of 19,319 gave Toronto's captain a standing ovation.
Will Toronto fans remember Mats Sundin as the greatest Leaf of all time? Have your say in our forum.
Oh sure, he scored more phantom points than even the great Borgee Salmoning.
Sundin??The greatest Leaf ever?
You have to be kidding.

best scorer, obviously. Best Leaf no. Heart and ability to lead the team around you makes you the best. That title goes to Clark and Sittler. Nobody entertained us fans like Clark. He ripped the roof off the Gardens many a night.

Kudos to Sundin for breaking the record. However I know a number of players who are greater Leafs than Mr. Sundin both on and off the ice. I would rank Sundin around third or fourth amongst centers who have played for the Leafs. I would also suggest Clark, Gilmour, McDonald, Salming, Keon, Bower, and a whole list of other are ahead of Mr. Sundin. Having said that, well done on the record Mats.

No damn way, not even close. This team used to win Stanley Cups when they had leaders and Captains who showed up to play in the playoffs. Sundin was definitely not one of those. Sittler scored 5 goals against the Broad Street Bullies in the playoffs when they were already 2 time Stanley Cup winners in 1976. Sundin could not even lead this team to what should have been a favoured Stanley Cup appearance in 2002 vs an underdog Carolina. The only game they won in that Conf Final was the 1st game he didn't play. What a joke.

NO! Not yet anyway. Might not even be the best Swede that ever played for the Leafs. That title may still belong to Borje Salming. He played when every North American was gunning for European players and was still a stand-out. However, the Sundin saga is still being written. Congratulations Mats!

Darryl Sittler is to me the best Leaf of all time.
There are others that are before my time that would rate higher than Sundin.
Sundin finally broke Sittler's record, it only took him close to 100 more games to do it.

He's probably the best Leaf since Sittler but not of all time. He shouldn't even have played tonight. After his high stick on Komisarek he should have been suspended for 10 games.

Close!..he's one of the best dud ever!!!

Mats Sundin is the greatest Leaf of all time. No one comes close, Clark and Gilmour were great but they were not Leafs for long enough. Hope he wins a cup with the Leafs before he retires.

He already was. Getting the goal just made it 'official'.
